Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and reliable GP to join our excellent and well established multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

A key member of the team, the Salaried GP will manage patients, dealing with a wide range of presenting health care needs in a primary care setting. The post holder will work with clinical colleagues in ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered patients. The post holder will also contribute to planning and decision making as part of the practice team; the job description therefore covers clinical and organisational elements.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post holder will be available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone and video consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, issuing and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.

Making professionally autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred internally within the Practice.

Assessing patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems and makes assessment of their health care needs.

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.

Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols.

Providing counselling and health education.

Prescribing in accordance with the local prescribing formulary whenever this is clinically appropriate.

Liaising with and refer to other care providers internally or externally as appropriate.

Complying with relevant Practice policy/guidelines, e.g. Child Protection, confidentially issues and Equality and Diversity.

Maintaining GMC registration.

Ensuring continuous Medical Defence cover.

Ensuring inclusion on a local Performers list.

Other Responsibilities within the Practice

In general the post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Consulting with patients in the surgery, remotely and at home visits

Be available for on-call duties to answer patients telephone queries or carry out emergency home visits, or surgery consultations as appropriate.

Contributing to the evaluation, audit and clinical standard setting with colleagues.

Recording clear and contemporaneous I.T. based consultation notes to agreed standards.

Collecting data for audit purposes.

Compiling and issuing computer generated acute and repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice prescribing policies.

Contributing to the strategic management and development of the Practice e.g. in developing and contributing to practice policies and guidelines.

Attending training, practice meetings and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

Meeting all timescales and deadlines for quality improvement projects and audits to ensure that the practice meets quality standards and receives the designated funding (e.g. Quarterly Enhanced Services returns, annual QOF audit etc.)

Ensuring full accreditation which will include full and unrestricted registration with the GMC, membership of an appropriate defence body and delivery of annual evidence for appraisal or accreditation purposes in keeping with National requirements at any time.

A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice

Involvement in Care Home Scheme, participation in weekly care home visits and MDT meetings when required.
