Job summary
Our GP Receptionist is the first point of contact for patients coming into the surgery. The post holder will be responsible for efficient, effective and friendly customer service / reception duties. Provide support to the clinical and administration teams to optimise the patients journey and be an ambassador for the Practice.
This post is for 2 x 10 hour days (Monday to Friday) and the post holder must be flexible on days and be able to provide additional cover as and when required.
The purpose of the post holder is to ensure that the patients presenting issue is managed appropriately and that the patients are up-to-date with any routine appointments.
Main duties of the job
- Provide clear and concise information to patients and understand the importance of discretion and confidentiality.
- Have good communication skills and a calm manner.
- Put patients at ease and give them opportunity to explain their needs.
- Have a variety of questioning techniques in order to develop a full picture of the nature of the patient's problem.
- Identity potentially serious problems and bring those to the immediate attention of the appropriate clinician.
- Build strong relationships with all team members, clinicians and recognise that healthcare professionals in the Practice are a resource to be used appropriately.
- Develop and maintain an in depth knowledge and understanding of the services provided by the Practice and in the wider health community; be able to use this knowledge to guide the patient to the service which is most likely to meet their needs.
- Demonstrate assertiveness without being domineering and have the ability to gain the confidence of the caller (projecting confidence and sensitivity).
- You will be working in a fast-paced environment with varying and conflicting time constraints
- You will be working within a large multidisciplinary team, and understand and respect the roles of each of the team members
- You will be part of a high profile team with key influence on development and improvement of the Practice.
- You will at all times promote the Practice in a positive way.

The Practice Clinical team consists of:5 GP Partners /2 Salaried GP's /1 Registrar (GP's in Training) /2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners /2 Clinical Pharmacists /1 Nurse Manager /5 Practice Nurses / 2 HCA's. The clinical team is supported by Senior Management and Middle Management team, and 25 highly skilled administrators
