Due to the success of integrating the Pharmacy Technician role into our Practices, we are looking to grow our team and are recruiting a Lead Pharmacy Technician to work among the Practices of Regis Healthcare PCN.

This is a brand new role in which you would be joining a growing, supportive medicines management team in a large PCN.

The successful candidate will join the Regis Healthcare PCN team of established Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians working across the six practices in Bognor Regis:

  • Arundel Surgery
  • Avisford Medical Group
  • Bersted Green Surgery
  • Bognor Regis Medical Practice
  • The Croft Practice
  • Flansham Park Health Centre

Additional Information:

Requests for part time, flexible hours or fixed working patterns will be considered however, the successful candidate must be able to commit to a minimum of 30 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

This is a new role for Regis Healthcare PCN. It combines patient-facing, analytical and administrative elements of work, alongside leading a team of Pharmacy Technicians, to ensure the achievement of PCN targets.

The post-holder will help patients to get the best from their medicines by communicating changes to agreed and approved protocols, improving repeat prescribing processes, promotion of repeat dispensing and online ordering, minimising clinical risk and aiming to reduce wasted medicines. In addition, they will lead the pharmacy team, ensuring they have the skills and competencies required of the role.

The successful candidate will be supported in terms of learning and professional development through regular access to a Clinical Pharmacist supervisor, other Practice staff and through regular Practice team meetings on a variety of topics. As part of a growing Pharmacy Technician Team in IPC there is also a programme of peer support events and team meetings in place.

Job responsibilities

Pharmacy Technician Responsibilities:

  • Support the PCN multi-disciplinary team to ensure efficient medicines optimisation processes are being followed
  • Stream general prescription requests and send appropriate work to the reception teams, so as to allow GPs and clinical pharmacists to review the more clinically complex requests
  • Assist patients with responses to medication queries
  • Promote Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD) and online ordering, as appropriate to patient and practice needs
  • Implement efficient ordering and return processes and reduce medication wastage, liaising with patients as needed
  • Support the implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance within GP practices, care homes and other primary care settings
  • Help to organise and run various systems for the delivery of QOF and locally commissioned enhanced services
  • Review and develop policies in line with CQC compliance
  • Develop relationships with other pharmacy professionals and members of the multi-disciplinary team, including primary care, community pharmacy, secondary care and mental health
  • Contribute to the delivery of effective daily processes for the transfer of care between hospitals and GPs, including effective signposting, record updates and relate communication
  • Through the use of audit and action planning, help to tackle health inequalities
  • Undertake the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) Primary Care Pharmacy Education Pathway

  • BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences
