Job summary
Our GP Assistant will support the smooth running of clinics
by performing routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP,
freeing up their time to focus on the patient.
You will be assigned a GP Mentor and will follow an
accredited training programme leading to award of the GP Assistant certificate

Main duties of the job
Liaise between patient and doctor as requested
Deal with non clinical patient queries ahead of GP consultations
Liaise with external organisations such as care homes and community nursing teams
Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist
etc as appropriate.
Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs
coding and adding to notes
Supporting with QOF reviews
Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up
appointments of patients
Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs and phlebotomy
Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of
some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage,
benefits agency forms etc
Track and record evidence of your experience against the
national competency framework.

A GPA will support the GP(s) smooth running of clinics by
performing the more routine administration and clinical tasks
on behalf of the GP freeing up their time to focus on the
patient.
Tasks could include
- Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in
terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such
as clinical pharmacist etc.
Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs

Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP,
taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for
the GP appointment.
