Job summary

Wychbury Medical Group is a busy GP practice based over three surgeries with 21,800 patients. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Healthcare Assistant to join our nursing team to provide primary care nursing services to our patients.

Hours are full-time 37.5 per week but we can be flexible to consider part-time or job share options for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

Applicants should be suitably qualified with Care Certificate or NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare (or equivalent) and a good level of general education.

The postholder should be able to work on their own initiative but also enjoy being part of a team. With excellent communication skills, you will bring your previous skills and experience to undertake the following clinical duties:

  • Venepuncture
  • Blood pressure recording (including ambulatory)
  • Urinalysis
  • Weight management advice
  • Assistance with minor surgery as requested by GP/Practice Nurse
  • ECG application and recording
  • Ear irrigation
  • Simple dressings
  • Influenza, pneumonia and shingles immunisations
  • Assisting with Long Term Condition Clinics
  • Assisting with immunisation clinics
  • Stocking and maintaining all consulting rooms
  • Accurate recording of results on computer
  • NHS Healthchecks
  • B12 injections
  • Removal of sutures/clips

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide clinical and administrative support to the nursing team.

Training and Clinical Support

With the appropriate training and in accordance with identified procedures undertake the following:

  • Venepuncture
  • Blood pressure recording (including ambulatory)
  • Urinalysis
  • Patient height and weight management
  • Weight management advice
  • Assistance with minor surgery as requested by GP/Practice Nurse
  • ECG application and recording
  • Ear irrigation
  • Simple dressings
  • Influenza, pneumonia and shingles immunisations
  • Assisting with Long Term Condition Clinics
  • Assisting with immunisation clinics
  • Stocking and maintaining all consulting rooms
  • Accurate recording of results on computer
  • NHS Healthchecks
  • B12 injections
  • Removal of sutures/clips

Administrative activities

  • Answering the telephone, receiving and transmitting messages
  • Form filling
  • Arrange patient appointment as necessary
  • Liaise with other heath care professionals
  • Filing and record keeping as necessary
  • Ordering of treatment room equipment and vaccine supplies

  • Act always in a way to protect the confidentiality of patients and maintain the integrity of the patient/health carer relationship
  • Demonstrate at all times excellent communication skills
  • Work effectively as a member of the team

  • Always be aware of own limitations and do not carry out any task or procedure that is beyond the HCAs scope of competence.
  • Attend regular study days (even following completion of NVQ Qualifications) and updates to maintain a safe standard of practice

  • Act as support and share good practice with other health care assistants
