Job summary

1.75 WTE experienced paramedics with advanced clinical skills at Masters level sought to work autonomously within Primary Care. This is a brand new role with opportunities for collaborative development and community integration.

Main duties of the job

A paramedic able work autonomously within the community using enhanced clinical assessment and treatment skills, to provide first point of contact for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems relating to illness or injury. You will have the capability to make sound judgements in the absence of full information and to manage varying degrees of risk when there are complex, competing or ambiguous information or uncertainty.

About us

South Waveney Primary Care Network (PCN) consists of 5 practices (4 GP partnerships) covering the South Waveney area with a registered population of 55,000. Cutlers Hill and Beccles practices already employ paramedics and we are now looking to recruit to Longshore Surgeries (run by Dr. Johnson and partners) and Sole Bay/Bungay practices (both run by Dr Castle and Partners). Although these are network posts, they will be single organisation positions with the post holder directly responsible to and spending all their clinical time with a single practice/partnership.

Job responsibilities

The post holder is a registered ECP with post graduate qualifications at education Level 7, relevant to the position, who, acting within their professional boundaries, will provide care for the presenting patient from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care. They will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care for patients within the general practice. They will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures. The post holder will also be a dedicated Resus Officer for the practice working with current post-holder.

Essential

  • BSc in a training programme approved by the College of Paramedics
  • Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration
  • able to operate at an advanced level of clinical practice
  • Framework for Higher Education Qualification (FHEQ) Level 7 or Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCOF) Level 11

Desirable

  • Pre-reg MSc in a training programme approved by the College of Paramedics
  • non-medical prescribing qualification
  • Full UK driving license
  • Evidence of verification against the paramedic primary care roadmap

Experience

Essential

  • experience in managing a designated caseload using theoretical and practical experience, completing assessments, planning, implementing interventions, and evaluating outcomes aligned to care plans
  • working knowledge of Microsoft and GP practice and prescribing data monitoring systems
  • ability to write comprehensive clinical notes, implement and evaluate care plans

Desirable

  • working towards advanced clinical practitioner status
  • mentorship or supervisory skills training
  • be aware of data protection (GDPR) and confidentiality issues particularly within a PCN
  • cognitive behavioural and motivational interviewing approaches / skills
