Harborough Field Surgery is seeking an enthusiastic, salaried GP for 4 - 6 sessions per week.
Currently
a GMS practice, we are a consistent performer in QoF achieving a minimum of
97.45% during the last 5 years. We
accept the majority of DES & LES.
We hope
to support any special interests an applicant may have; and in this respect
currently host medical students from Cambridge University.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be part of a primary care health team providing general medical services and will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.
About us
Located on the outskirts of Rushden in a purpose built medical centre which opened in 2006, the surgery boasts 9 doctors, currently serving a population of some 14,000 patients.
Clinically the doctors are supported by a Clinical Pharmacist, 3 Nurse Practitioners, 4 Treatment Room Nurses, 1 Health Care Assistant and 2 Nursing Assocaites. We also have access to a First Contact Physiotherapist, a Paramedic Home Visiting service, daily Paediatric Nurse clinics, a Social Prescriber and Care Coordinators for our care home residents and elderly, frail patients.
Our Practice Manager is supported by an Operations Manager and our Administrative support team includes 8 Receptionists and 7 Administrator/Secretaries. The surgery is a training practice and hosts GP Trainees and Medical Students from Cambridge University. The surgery hosts the GP Enahnced Access Service.

Clinical Responsibilities:
- The post-holder will make him/herself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, test results and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
- Work with the electronic document management system EMIS Web, ICE, Choose and Book, Dictation.
- Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
- Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.
- Providing counselling and health education if the need arises
- Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
- Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
- Collecting data for audit purposes & quality purposes.
- Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
- Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary and generically whenever this is clinically appropriate in liaison with the partners.
- To use the applicable Choose and Book systems for patient referrals etc.
- In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care under a GMS contract. This will include some on call sessions and visits.
