Job summary

A new vacancy has arisen for a Phlebotomist within Brannam Medical Centre. The Practice is looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Phlebotomist to join our nursing team, in caring for our list of over 19,300 patients in the Barnstaple area.This busy department provides extensive services and strives to deliver a high standard of care for patients.

The successful applicant will be providing clinical services to support the Nursing Team ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and efficient care within their scope of practice, maximising outcomes for patients.

The main element of your role will be to provide comprehensive phlebotomy services as well as some management of stock, general assistance within the treatment room and chaperoning duties.

Main duties of the job

-Accurate labelling of blood specimens & forms using ordercomms as appropriate.

- Collection of blood samples by recommended techniques.

- Ordering adequate stocks of phlebotomy equipment and sample bottles.

- In house warfarin monitoring as per protocol

Other Treatment Room Duties

- Restocking of equipment.

- Daily checking of equipment.

- Chaperoning.

- Assisting all Treatment Room staff as required.

- Attending team meetings as required.

Learning and development

-Attend courses as per the practice development plan and personal development plan

- Attend study days and course required for the post

- Attend an annual appraisal/individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development

You will need to have excellent communication skills, be caring, sensitive and empathetic, have good IT abilities, be able to manage your time, work as a team member and autonomously and have the ability to work under pressure in a busy medical practice.
