Job responsibilities

1. JOB DESCRIPTION - PHLEBOTOMIST

- Collection of blood samples by recommended techniques.

- Accurate labelling of blood specimens and forms using ordercomms as appropriate.

- Ordering adequate stocks of phlebotomy equipment and sample bottles.

- In house warfarin monitoring as per protocol

- Restocking of equipment.

- Daily checking of equipment.

- Chaperoning.

- Assisting all Treatment Room staff as required.

- Attending team meetings as required.

Learning and development

- Attend courses as per the practice development plan and personal development plan

- Attend study days and course required for the post

- Attend an annual appraisal/individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development

- Take responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work.

- A responsibility under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 to report all potential and actual risks.

- Be aware of the individual responsibility each employee has with regard to their own welfare and the welfare of others in the organisation.

- Adhere to the Code of Practice for safe guarding medical information as approved by the Medical Advisory Commission.

You are required to be flexible in your working hours and provide a reasonable amount of overtime during periods of holidays, sickness and other absences in order to meet the needs of the Practice.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths.
• Fully trained in venepuncture.

Experience

Essential

• Experience of phlebotomy

Desirable

• Experience of working in primary care
