Job summary
We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Medical
Secretary to join the secretarial team. The practices provide services for a
diverse population; therefore, it is essential that you are able to communicate
sensitively and effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and those
whose first language may not be English.

Main duties of the job
Duties will include performing the provision of clerical support to doctors, Practice Admin Manager, and nursing staff in relation to referrals, requests for information and access to medical records and to plan and co-ordinate meetings and associated documentation actioning referrals to services in a timely manner. You should ideally have an understanding of the General Practice environment and excellent communication skills. A good standard of general education, together with IT skills and the ability to work under pressure.

- Comprehensive knowledge of a range of routine secretarial/administration procedures
- Knowledge of a range of software programmes, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Previous experience of working in an office environment and carrying out general officer procedures
- Previous experience of supervising a team
- Previous experience of working with general public
- Previous experience of taking minutes or willingness to develop these skills
- Previous experience of producing audit work and reports
Desirable
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of other Microsoft packages
- Experience of SystmOne functions
- Previous NHS experience

- NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration or Customer Service or equivalent knowledge and experience
- Word processing to RSA 2 standard of European Computer Driving License (EDCL) or able to demonstrate appropriate level of skill
