Job responsibilities
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.To provide treatment room services and
health education advice.
i. Provide
routine nursing treatments, within competence, to all patients in participation
with general practitioners or independently to agreed practice policies,
protocols and guidelines.
ii. Provide
ECG screenings to practice patients within agreed protocols with referral to
general practitioners as necessary.
iii.
Advise patients on general health care and minor
ailments with referral to general practitioners as necessary.
iv.
To carry out Health Checks to agreed guidelines using
practice templates
v.
Assist GPs with minor surgery and provide chaperoning
and assistance as requested during patient examinations.
vi.
Provide spirometry testing to practice patients within
agreed protocols with referral to general practitioners as necessary.
vii.
To administer influenza vaccinations, pneumonia and
Vitamin B12 injections using PSDs.
viii.
Carry out extended roles inc compression dressings and
ear irrigation following appropriate training.
2. Treatment room supplies and equipment.
i.
Ensure the maintenance of equipment and stock levels
relating to patient care.
ii.
Maintain stocks of health information leaflets as
appropriate.
iii.
Ensure all Health and Safety requirements and
Infection Control measures are met and report any problems to the Nurse
Manager.
3. Pathological specimens and investigatory
procedures.
Undertake the
collection of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, wound
swabs, etc. Perform any investigatory procedures requested by the general
practitioners within competency.
4. Administrative and professional
responsibilities.
Participate in
the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team.
i. Ensure complete and accurate records
of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients computerised
medical records.
ii. Ensure
accurate completion of all necessary documentation and records associated with
patient health care and registration with the practice.
iii. Attend
and participate in practice meetings as appropriate.
5. Education and training of students and practice staff.
Participate
in the education and training of trainee GPs, students of all disciplines and
the induction of all members of practice staff as appropriate.
6. Liaison.
Maintain
effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care and
with all other disciplines within the practice, with appropriate regard to
confidentiality.
7. Professional development.
i.
Maintain a safe and effective level of practice and
bring any deficits in training to the attention of the Senior Nurse
Practitioner.
ii.
Attend annual appraisal and regular clinical
supervision.
8.
Any other delegated duties considered appropriate to
the post.
