Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a part time Practice Nurse to join our small, dedicated team.

We are looking for a Practice Nurse with good interpersonal, clinical, administrative and organisational skills to ensure patients receive a high quality holistic and personalised service. The requirement is for 24 hrs per week (Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 9.00 17.30).

If you are a confident and motivated Nurse who works well as part of a team this would be the perfect role for you.

Main duties of the job

In summary the successful candidate will be a team player, experienced in General Practice treatment room procedures and be skilled in, or willing to train in the Primary Care services of:

Management of long term conditions (Diabetes, COPD, Asthma), Wound management, Child Health, Travel immunisations, Cervical smear taking.

Support to develop your experience and opportunity for additional training will be provided.

About us

You will have the opportunity to work across two small rural practices Binbrook and Wragby Surgery with list sizes of 2400 and 3600 respectively.

Both practices benefit from a strong administration team who work closely with the clinical team to ensure smooth running of clinics.

Job responsibilities

Job Summary:

To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team.

Job Responsibilities:

Providing assessment, screening and treatment services and health education advice

Provide nursing treatments to patients in participation with general practitioners or independently to agreed protocols

To manage patients with chronic disease including Asthma, COPD, Heart Disease

To undertake spirometry tests

To offer Family Planning advice and services

Provide general and specific health screenings to the Practice patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to general practitioners as necessary

Advise patients on general health care with referral to GPs as necessary

Work with patients in order to support adherence to prescribed treatments

Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote them to live healthily, and apply principles of self-care

Support and manage health needs of women presenting for family planning and cervical cytology consultations

Implement and participate in vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adults and children

Travel Immunisations

Perform venepuncture according to local guidelines

Provide a holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence based guidelines, and locally agreed formulary

Suture removal

Perform Electrocardiograms (ECG)

In participation with the Practice Manager, ensure the maintenance of equipment and stock levels relating to patient care

Following appropriate training, undertake the collection, storage and despatch of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears etc and ensure the cleanliness of any equipment so used. Perform any investigatory procedures requested by the GPs.
