Job summary

It is intended that a successful applicant will train to become a Dispenser within the Practice Team.

  • Duties for this are -orderingmedication/prescriptions
  • Ordering the required drugs/appliances from the wholesaler.
  • Dispensing of drugs as per current protocols.

Main duties of the job

Ensure total confidentiality in that no information about patients, either medical or personal is disclosed to persons other than those employed by or attached to the practice for which such information is relevant.

Dealing with problems and queries from the Doctor, other members of staff and attached staff.

Entering medical information onto the computer as and when appropriate. (Training will be arranged for this.)

Opening the premises each morning and securing them at night.

Other duties as agreed with Doctors.

2. Telephone Duties

Making appointments.

  • Dealing with requests for visits and recording them in the visit book.
  • Dealing with problems from patients and other agencies.
  • Telephone hospitals for test results and to make appointments.
  • Taking messages and recording them in the daybook.

3. General

  • Practice experience preferred with a knowledge of Emisweb and Docman.
  • Previous Dispensary experience preferred but a willingness to train to
  • become a dispenser an option.
  • Good standard of general education
  • GCSE Mathematics
  • GCSE English
  • Practical experience of working with others
