Job responsibilities
1. To carry out dispensary duties, under
the direction of the Dispensary Manager
2. Must be prepared to undertake in-house
training, the Dispensary Doctors/Pharmacy NVQ L2-L3 and
participate in Continued Professional Development
3. Responsible to the Dispensary Manager,
Practice Manager and Partners
4. To contribute to the supervision of
trainee dispenser(s), as designated by the Dispensary Manager.
General
Be
clean and tidy in appearance / Wear and launder overall provided.
Treat
the patient courteously and with consideration at all times.
Maintain
work and patient confidentiality.
Follow
directions for all tasks as set out in the Dispensary Standard Operating
Procedures (SOPs).
Duties:
(All
Dispensary processes are in the SOP Guidelines and should be followed)
Collecting
scripts and prescription requests from the Dispensary hatch / Handing out of
dispensed medicines and scripts.
Checking
the back of prescription form is filled out correctly by the patient.
Collecting
and recording any fees due.
Entering
sales in cash book.
Recording
private scripts / Filing processed scripts.
Collate
prescription requests to printed scripts.
Transfer
any notes onto appropriate form (e.g. BP check, query to be raised with the
Doctor).
Producing
medication labels.
Order
stock as necessary.
Maintain/update,
dispensary computer database as appropriate.
Dispense
medication / Checking dispensed medication.
Endorsing
prescriptions.
Write
up legal records (Controlled Drugs CDs).
Ensuring
compliance with SOPs for recording information.
Dealing
with patient complaints as appropriate, if Dispensary Manager absent.
Follow
error reporting procedures.
Produce
repeat and acute prescriptions as Dispensary SOP (web, email, written and
telephones requests).
Update/maintain
patient information on Visions computer as SOP.
Carry
out medication reviews as appropriate (following SOP guidelines).
Collate
patient information for Med Targets as appropriate (following SOP
guidelines).
Answer
emergency telephone calls and take necessary action.
Unpack
and check orders:
- Signing and checking delivery
copies for CDs and Cytotoxics
- Put away stock with regard to
stock rotation and storage requirements
- Notify any discrepancies and
claim credits/return goods accordingly
- Shelf date checking
- Checking fridge temperature.
Count
prescriptions and enter on sheets.
Maintenance
of accurate computer records Pro-Script & Vision:
- Run daily computer backup
- Run weekly computer backup Pro-Script computer
- Run monthly computer update
Process
patient returns and record as necessary.
Other
duties as requested by the Dispensary Manager.

treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive
information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in
confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy
and act appropriately. In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job
Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information
relating to patients and their carers, practice staff and other healthcare
workers.
They may also have
access to information relating to the practice as a business
organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as
strictly confidential information relating to patients, carers, colleagues,
other healthcare workers or the business of the practice may only be divulged
to authorised persons in accordance with the practice policies and procedures
relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.

The
post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others
health, safety and security as defined in the Practice Health & Safety
Policy, to include:
- Disposal and recording of our of
date items
- Supervision of job training of
dispensary staff, as requested by the Dispensary Manager
- Carryout general housekeeping
- Keeping patient areas tidy and free
from possible safety hazards
- Using personal security systems
within the workplace according to Practice guidelines
- Identifying the risks involved in
work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages
those risks
- Making effective use of training
to update knowledge and skills
- Using appropriate infection
control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free
from hazards
- Reporting potential risks
identified.
