Job summary

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to provide receptionist and administrative duties to support the patient pathway through our practice. Our friendly practice is looking for a kind, well organised and motivated individual to join our professional, fun team as a receptionist.

The job entails greeting, assisting and directing patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

You will provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.

You will be required to work a 36 hour week in shifts to ensure that the role is covered from 8am to 8pm (early shift is 8am to 4pm and late shift is either 11am-7pm or 12pm to 8pm).

Main duties of the job

The role involves helping our patients with appointments and queries and managing a wealth of administrative tasks. You will be working alongside our doctors and nurses.

You need to like interacting with people, be able to think and act very fast and be confident with computers. You must have a professional approach to your work, be confident, assertive and have excellent communication skills. Training will be provided to equip the job holder with the necessary skills.

Our 3 practices serve a combined list of 30,000 patients under a single partnership. Each has its own list, dynamics, and character. We team up for peer support and education, with common back-office systems. In this way, we achieve more together than we could separately. You may have the opportunity to work across the sites.

Job Summary:

  • To make computer appointments both at the front desk and over the telephone

  • To act as a point of call for all enquiries from patients and respond to any requests for assistance

  • To enter details of new patient registrations onto the computer

  • To assist doctors in surgery with ad hoc requests (i.e. make hospital appt on behalf of patient)

  • To enter details of new patient registrations onto EMIS

  • To receipt all payments received at front desk in respect of payments for travel vaccinations etc

  • To carry out data entry for repeat prescriptions as and when required

  • To pull medical records in preparation for doctors surgeries and nurses clinics

  • To return medical records to file and file all incoming correspondence

  • To ensure that waiting room areas are kept tidy

  • To develop good working relationships with both internal and external contacts
