Job summary
We are seeking an experienced Practice Nurse to work at Briercliffe Surgery.
Briercliffe Surgery has a registered population of over 8,000 patients.
We are a multidisciplinary practice that includes GPs, Paramedics, ANPs, Clinical Pharmacists, Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistants and Physiotherapists.
Main duties of the job
You will be fully proficient in Chronic disease management, vaccinations and immunisations, cervical screening, contraceptive reviews, wound care including compression, as well as other general treatment room duties.
You will provide support to junior members of the nursing team including healthcare assistants and will direct their work to ensure that the Practices provide high quality care.
You will work to high infection control standards and cold chain compliancy, and will actively contribute to our nursing meetings.
The award of our highest salary range will include full qualifications for Chronic Disease Management and associated experience to work autonomously.
About us
You will be based at Briercliffe GP Surgery. Our organisation has three Partners: Dr Jawaid Khan, Dr Mark Fuller and Mr Methven Forbes. However, the day to day running of the Practice is carried out by our inclusive board of senior team members that includes our lead clinicians.
The organisation has a board structure with senior members of the clinical and non-clinical team directly involved in the decision-making processes of the organisation through our Senior Management Team and Clinical Reference Group.

Job responsibilities
You will support junior members of the Nursing team, adhering to effective systems which are in place for disease management, screening and immunisations, be accountable for infection control and cold chain compliancy, provide general nursing services.
To work within NMC Code of Conduct and to agreed Practice standards and protocols.
- Oversee recall systems for chronic diseases, cervical screening, immunisations and other key areas as relevant to Practice Nursing
- Deliver effective implementation of management of patients with chronic diseases as detailed by QOF, local quality schemes and national quality schemes
- Oversee infection control and cold chain systems to ensure compliancy
- Provide chronic disease management for Diabetes, Asthma, COPD, Hypertension and CHD/CVD
- Perform cervical screening and promote breast awareness
- Provide adult and child immunisations ensuring full achievement of targets
- Administer adult and paediatric injections
- Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs
- Venepuncture
- Provide advice on lifestyle issues, assisting and supporting patients in changing their unhealthy behaviours and refer appropriately
- Travel clinic
- QOF
- Assisting GPs and other clinicians if required
- Annual vaccination campaigns
