Job summary

Due to retirement we are looking to recruit a Practice Manager to work alongside our current Manager until their retirement in Spring/Summer 2025.

We are a rural dispensing practice with a list size of 3300 patients, 1 GP and 2 salaried GPs, we are also training practice with GP Registrars, FY2s and Medical Students.

The ideal candidate will have excellent skills in people management, finance and business management. Preferably have experience working within the NHS.

Hours of week 32 hours a week, salary dependant on experience, NHS Pension scheme and 5 weeks holiday included.

Main duties of the job

To ensure our rural dispensing medical practice continuously develops by providing timely and quality care to patients. You will make key business decisions and oversee day-to-day practice operations ensuring our practice remains financially sustainable while delivering good patient service continually striving to meet the needs of the local community

About us

Cartmel Surgery is an established dispensing surgery serving a rural and elderly population. The practice moved into the current premises in 2009. On the last 2 CQC inspections the practice was rated Outstanding.

We have one GP (Sole proprietor) 2 Salaried GPs, currently two GP Registrars and one Foundation Doctor. Our GPs are supported by 2 part-time Practice Nurses and an excellent team of HCAs.

The non-clinical team comprises of an IT Manager, Dispensary Manager, Pharmacy Technician, 2 Dispensers, 6 part-time Receptionists and a Research Nurse. We also have ARRS staff working within the Practice - Pharmacist and Mental Health Practitioner.

Our lead GP is the Clinical Director of our PCN which we are actively involved in. We are also part of the North West Clinical Research Team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Works with the doctor in charge to develop business strategies and patient services.

2. Designs and implements workplace procedures.

3. Oversees daily practice operations, including appointment scheduling, billing procedures, cleaning, security and occupational health and safety.

4. Clinical staff management (doctors, registrars, students, nurses together with other practitioners and locum cover) including the management of all associated HR/appraisal records.

5. Manage practice budgets and administer all financial procedures including VAT, salaries, payroll and invoices.

6. Controls the supply of medications and medical equipment.

7. Management of practice buildings and contractors in relation to maintenance, electric, gas and insurance together with regulation CQC contracts.

8. Manages patient records and IT systems with the assistance of the practices IT Lead.

9. Evaluates appointment procedures and patient services including administering patient complaints and SEAs.

10. Recruits new non-clinical staff and liaises with the practices Non-Clinical Staff Supervisor regarding supervision of the support staff.

11. To attend weekly PCN meetings and attend to PCN issues and needs.

12. To coordinate and administer bi-monthly practice meetings.

13. To coordinate regular clinical and safeguarding meetings as required.

14. Monitors practices progress in meeting government targets.

15. Additional tasks as required by the doctor in charge.
