Main duties of the job

In this vital role, you will be the comforting face patients see when they're anxious about blood tests. Your skill will ensure that each procedure is carried out smoothly and safely, recorded and processed accurately, and the patient has a positive experience.

About us

Eastwood Primary Centre serves 18700 patients in its semi-rural locality. Our supportive and friendly team includes GPs, Pharmacists, Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and Phlebotomists. These are all supported by a large robust administration team. We are high QoF achievers and currently have an outstanding CQC rating. We are a busy practice keen to deliver the best possible health service to our patients.

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the phlebotomist. Obtaining patient consent for the collection of

a blood sample

b. Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols

c. Maintaining accurate patient records on System Oned. The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples

e. Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies

f. Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner

g. Maintaining an effective liaison with the laboratory staff at NUH

h. Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant qualification in venepuncture.
  • Good general standard of education.

Desirable

  • A full clean driving licence (to accommodate any home visits)

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with the general public.
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting.
  • I.T. literate.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in primary care.
  • Experience of working with clinical I.T. systems.

Skills

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills (written &oral)
  • Clear polite manner
  • Effective time management (planning & organising)
  • Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
  • Good interpersonal skills
