Job summary

Salisbury Medical Practice is looking to recruit a committed, caring and highly motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our well-established Medical Practice.

Main duties of the job

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will support and work alongside the fellow Practice Pharmacist/s and Pharmacy Technician/s to ensure the delivery of prescribing is safe, cost effective and efficient as well as ensuring there is little waste whilst maximising patient outcomes.

We are looking for someone who is a trained and registered Pharmacy Technician who desirably has previous experience working within a General Practice environment. Applicant must have excellent organisational and communications skills as well as a high level of competency using computers.

The successful candidate will have the ability to liaise with staff at all levels and work effectively as part of a team. A strong commitment to personal and professional development and teamwork are essential for this role.

About us

This is a permanent position, and we are open to full time or part time (minimum of 18.75hrs per week) applicants, desired hours can be discussed at interview. We offer 5 weeks annual leave (pro rata), a competitive salary and the chance to join or continue on in the NHS Pension Scheme. Job description

Job responsibilities

The purpose of the Pharmacy Technician is to support and work alongside the fellow Practice Pharmacist/s and Pharmacy Technician/s to ensure the delivery of prescribing is safe, cost effective and efficient as well as ensuring there is little waste whilst maximising patient outcomes.

  • To process medication requests including prescriptions and respond to medication queries from staff and patients.
  • To perform face to face or telephone medication reviews for patients with up to 2 - 3 medications.
  • To support co-ordination of discharge summaries and medication reconciliations for patients being discharged form hospital and/or moving in to a care setting.
  • To support patients with effective medication administration (e.g. checking inhaler technique etc.).
  • To assist with the monitoring and management of prescribing budgets.
  • To identify blood tests, recalls and reviews using established protocols and forward these to the appropriate clinician.
  • To ensure patient confidentiality, respect, and dignity is adhered to at all times.
  • To support the Practice Pharmacists in reviewing prescribing protocols and SOPs.
  • To advise on the sourcing and safe management of medicines where required.
  • To participate in medication audits when required.
  • To liaise with the Medicines Management Team when required to ensure up to date practice.
  • To liaise with patients, carers, hospital, community pharmacies and other local healthcare providers when required.
  • To work with the immediate and wider team to ensure that the Practice is compliant with CQC standards where medicines are involved.
  • To deliver high quality, compassionate care and treatment to patients with a focus on promoting health, self-care and independence.
  • To ensure clinical practice is safe and effective and remains within boundaries of competence, and to acknowledge limitations.
  • To contribute to local and national practice targets e.g. QOF, prescribing incentive scheme, national benchmarking etc.
  • To use Ardens templates to ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients records.
  • To taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance to ensure own educational commitment is at least sufficient to maintain registration requirements.
  • To participate in the education and training of students of all disciplines and the introduction of all members of the practice staff where appropriate.
  • To act with professionalism and ensuring that ethical conduct is adhered to at all times.
  • To participate and promote child and vulnerable adult safeguarding and to extract safeguarding information and follow the appropriate pathway when required.
  • To keep the working area clean, tidy and professional whilst adhering to GDPR regulations.
  • To assist with training for new staff.
  • To assist with the gathering of statistics and information when required.
  • To participate and co-operate with any research projects.
  • To work across different practices on an ad-hoc/when required basis.
  • It will be necessary to attend and contribute to various practice meetings as requested.
