Job summary

The role of the Medical Secretary within the Practice is to provide administrative and clerical support, processing outgoing referrals from the Clinical team. You will provide general assistance to the Practice team, adhere to policies and procedures. You will be responsibility for effective communication between patients, primary and secondary care teams, as well as other agencies. You will need a working knowledge of NHS services, specialist clinics, referral criteria and how to access services locally. You will have GP surgery experience, a strong working knowledge of confidentiality, advanced IT skills, excellent written and verbal communication.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities include typing of letters and referrals dictated by the clinical team. Organising referrals using the NHS e-referral system, including C the signs. Responding to tasks, expediting appointments or chasing results as required. Communicating updates directly with patients and members of the Practice team. Other responsibilities including organising movement of medical records, support with medical reports, summarising, safeguarding and workflow.
