Job summary
We are looking to recruit Medical Receptionists, and Senior Medical Receptionists, to support our Reception teams across the Practice sites.
We have opportunities available for part-time, full-time or zero-hour positions.
Main duties of the job
The ideal candidate will have prior experience working as a Medical Receptionist, or experience working in an administrative role within a healthcare environment.
As a Receptionist, your duty will be to receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way. Patient safety and dignity must be maintained and respected at all times.
About us
Riverport Medical Practice is a friendly practice with 3 sites in and around St Ives. We have a diverse clinical team of 8 GPs, Clinical Pharmacists, Physician Associate, Nurses and HCAs. Our clinical staff are supported by a team of administration staff including Receptionists, Secretaries, Notes Summarisers and Administrators.
The Practice has recently been rated 'Good' in all domains by CQC.

Receptionist
Responsibilities
- To have a thorough knowledge of all Practice procedures
- To work in accordance of written protocols
- Work-flowing electronic documents & filing on patient medical
records
- Processing emails; work-flowing & actioning as necessary
- Scanning incoming post
- Communicating with other members of Practice team
- Handing out repeat prescriptions following Practice policy
- Be able to cover all reception positions as necessary
- Assist patients with their queries, either in person or via the
telephone
- Process appointment requests for today/future appointments with
appropriate clinicians
- Book in patients on arrival for their appointments
- Book/request home visits for housebound or care home patients
- Registration of new patients
- Process patient changes of address or contact details computer
data and medical records (have knowledge of Practice boundary)
- Have knowledge of telephone systems across all sites during and
after hours
- Confidence in holding and transferring telephone calls to
colleagues
- Ensure building security doors/windows
Senior Receptionist Responsibilities

Play an active role in maintaining the reception
rota and organising cover with colleagues

Provide training to new members of staff as part
of the induction process

Support existing members of staff through training
& development

Ensure administrative tasks are fairly distributed
within Reception team, and workload is shared amongst the team

Responding to patient prescription queries and
assisting Reception colleagues with looking for prescriptions

Answering patient queries, de-escalating problems
to prevent complaints arising where possible

Assisting Reception colleagues with appropriate
appointment booking and signposting to relevant services; identifying red
flags and understanding when to escalate clinical concerns

Support the Management Team with the introduction
of new IT or Practice policies

Attend and contribute to all Reception Team
meetings, and participate in other
Practice meetings as required

For key holders- thorough knowledge of locking up
procedures & security alarms

Maintain Carers Register and act as Carers
Champion providing a point of contact for all patients who are carers

appropriate and required, for instance District Nurses, Housebound Flu Vaccine
Team, Housebound Covid Vaccine Team- assisting colleagues with referrals where
required
