Main duties of the job

We wish to recruit a qualified and experienced Emergency Care Practitioner / Paramedic where youll help to mend lives. You'll be part of our emergency on-call team providing on the day urgent care services for patients; being involved in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment or referral of patients presenting with undifferentiated and undiagnosed conditions.

Working within the Advanced/Emergency Care Practitioners level of competency, you'll respond to referrals and requests from various sources including: Patients; Nursing/Residential Homes; General Practitioners; other health care professionals; NHS 111; and Out of Hours.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current registered Nurse (NMC) or registered Paramedic (HPC)
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • ENP/ ECP Minor Injuries and Minor Illness course Level 6
  • ALS/APLS provider
  • Completed mentorship programme

Desirable

  • Attended X-ray/IRMER course
  • Teaching and assessing qualification
  • Relevant MSc or BSc

Experience

Essential

  • Ability to manage and prioritise a highly demanding and varied workload
  • Previous experience of non-medical prescribing and using PGDs
  • Experience as an autonomous practitioner within a minor injury/illness centre or mobile service
  • Experience of the ECP/Advanced Practitioner role within Primary or Secondary Care
  • Experience of using Information Technology for a range of different purposes, including: Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, Outlook and databases
  • Evidence of experience / competency in the form of a professional portfolio

Desirable

  • Experience of performing a social assessment
  • Experience as a practitioner in an A&E Department or similar emergency care centre
  • Experience of clinical audit

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional communication skills in the written and oral form and the understanding of how to develop and maintain collaborative and constructive relationships
  • Ability to lead, be self motivated and work co-operatively as part of a team.
  • Managing ones own time and an ability to prioritise work, using own clinical judgment to form a diagnosis.
  • Current knowledge of government targets and initiatives and N.I.C.E. guidelines and their impact on clinical practice.
  • Understanding of the N.M.C/H.P.C Code of Professional Conduct

  • Able to professionally and appropriately challenge differing opinions as a patient advocate
  • Experience of triage/initial assessment
  • Skills for managing minor injuries
  • Dispensing skills as per protocols and patient group directives

  • Able to give appropriate telephone advice
  • Able to give relevant discharge advice
  • Experience of following referral pathways
