Job summary

Taunton Vale Healthcare is seeking an IT Lead to join our professional, happy and hardworking team. We are a forward thinking and busy Practice, working across two sites. The role is varied and will require a high standard of IT skills and excellent organisational skills. Previous experience would be an advantage and the post would suit someone currently working in a similar role within general practice or a GP administrator with relevant IT knowledge and skills.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will lead the Practice in developing and enhancing the use of information technology to enable it to meet the quality targets and clinical standards set by the practice and by the wider NHS targets. The person appointed will work closely with all the clinicians, the Management Team and other members of the practice team to develop and implement the systems needed to meet the fast-changing requirements of modern General Practice.

About us

Taunton Vale Healthcare is a general practice working across two sites, with a list size of 14500 patients. We have five GP Partners, one Salaried GP and an urgent care team consisting of Paramedics and Nurse Practitioners. In addition we have support from Clinical Pharmacists and a First Contact Physiotherapist. From an administration point of view, we have a management team, a business support team, secretarial team and a large team of Patient Service Administrators.

We are also currently a PCN COVID vaccination hub.

Job description

Job responsibilities

IT Infrastructure responsibilities:

To be the main point of contact for IT support, troubleshooting issues for both clinical and non-clinical teams and managing IT issues as they arise.

Routine maintenance of equipment.

Specifying and ordering IT consumables.

Liaison with the NHS IT team in relation to both equipment repair and maintenance and user access and security.

Provide recommendations to the Partners for efficiency improvements.

Manage and maintain a database of practice IT licenses and login details for the systems in use;

Lead on communications with the clinical system provider.

Liaise with EMIS Web and user-groups to ensure the collection and circulation of up to date information about system capabilities, resources and best practice.

To regularly review IT software/ hardware, ensuring updates are implemented, sourcing alternative solutions where appropriate.

Represent the practice at external meetings with IT system providers and user groups.

Training Responsibilities

To ensure all Practice staff are adequately trained, providing an ongoing training programme to maintain individual competencies.

To manage data quality issues, providing advice and guidance to all practice staff in the use of the clinical systems including Open Exeter, CQRS, and EMIS Web.

Inducting new staff into the Practice IT system, to ensure they are aware of NHS IT policies surrounding IT use in General Practice and to provide adequate training in the use of clinical systems and third party software.

Other responsibilities

To assist the Quality Improvement Manager to ensure the Practice is adhering to NHS IT, GDPR and Information Governance policies.

To contribute to the delivery of regular, timely and accurate information to both internal and external stakeholders using appropriate analytical and presentation techniques.

To work strategically to review and monitor the patient call and recall systems.

To ensure the accurate input of data into the clinical system through templates and protocols.

To provide audits and reports from the clinical system and third party software.

To assist the Quality Improvement Manager in maintaining an overview of QOF/ Prevalence to ensure the Practice is meeting required targets.

To have an understanding of CQC requirements in relation to IT management and Practice policies.

To maintain good knowledge of the developing NHS digital landscape. To be abreast of all NHS IT strategy and find workable solutions for changes as they occur.

To jointly manage projects with the Management Team, taking a lead in projects relating to the implementation of IT solutions, in order to provide more efficient, productive work streams within the Practice.

You will be required to work flexibly and may be required to work late evenings, weekends and bank holidays as requested
