Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with relevant skills and experience. You will have completed an accredited course and working as a HCA for the last 3months. The applicant must have experience within a medical environment.

Main duties of the job

Working under the direction of the lead nurse/Trianee Nurse Associate and as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, the post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture, conducting health checks as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient population.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

a. Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample and for all other checks

b. Perfoming venepunture in accordance with practice protocols

c. Maintaining accurate patient records on SystmOne

d. The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples

e. Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies

f. Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner

g. Maintaining an effective liaison with the laboratory staff at Hillingdon Hospital and Imperial College

h. Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters

Secondary Responsibilities

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the nursing assistant may be requested to:

a. Participate in practice audit as directed by the aduit lead

b. Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care

c. Support and participate in shared learning within the practice

d. Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota.
