Job summary

Becontree Medical Centre in Dagenham is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and forward-thinking Practice Manager to lead our established and dedicated team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated leader with strong business acumen and a genuine passion for patient care to help shape the continued development of our practice. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective day-to-day running of the surgery, while supporting strategic growth and maintaining high standards of governance and service delivery.

The Practice Manager will provide leadership and management to enable the practice to meet its agreed aims and objectives within a profitable, efficient, safe and effective environment.

You will:

  • Lead on the operational and strategic management of the practice
  • Ensure financial sustainability and regulatory compliance
  • Support and develop the practice team
  • Maintain a strong patient-centred ethos
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation

The successful candidate will work closely with the Partners and clinical team to ensure the smooth running of the practice and fulfil all management duties as agreed with the Partnership.

Main duties of the job

Main Responsibilities

Strategic Management & Leadership Contribute to strategy, business planning, and service development. Identify risks, opportunities, and income streams. Monitor performance and lead change. Represent the practice at PCN/ICB meetings and maintain effective communication.

Financial Management Oversee income and expenditure, including Enhanced Services. Liaise with accountants, ICB, and payment agencies.

Human Resources Lead recruitment, retention, and workforce planning. Oversee contracts and HR compliance. Manage appraisals, training, and staff development.

Organisational & Governance Ensure compliance with contracts, QOF, PCN, and regulations. Maintain policies and business continuity plans. Oversee Health & Safety, infection control, and CQC readiness.

Patient Services Ensure high-quality, accessible services. Manage complaints and significant events.

IT & Information Governance Oversee clinical systems (e.g. EMIS). Ensure GDPR and data protection compliance.

The Practice Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and strategic development of the GP practice. The post holder will ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe, and effective services to patients while maintaining compliance with NHS contractual, regulatory, and governance requirements.

The role combines strategic planning with day-to-day operational management, ensuring the efficient running of the practice, financial sustainability, and effective workforce management.

Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership & Management
