Job summary

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced GP Pharmacist to lead change within the Practice prescribing organisation, whilst delivering the Medicines Optimisation Local Enhanced Service (MO LES) in line with the strategic objectives of NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB.

Main duties of the job

The role focuses on improving the processes and procedures to support the GPs prescribing whilst linking to safety, quality, cost-effectiveness, and outcomes of medicines use across primary care.

You will be a dedicated and forward-thinking GP Pharmacist, leading the quality improvement of our prescribing processes and takingclinical ownership of the end-to-end prescription journey across the practice.

This role is central to delivering the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB) Medicines Optimisation Local Enhanced Service (LES), with a focus on embedding safe, evidence-based, and value-driven prescribing.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for systematically reviewing and enhancing all aspects of the prescribing cycle from medication initiation and repeat prescription protocols to structured medication reviews and deprescribing interventions. You will champion prescribing governance and lead continuous quality improvement (QI) initiatives that reduce variation, optimise clinical outcomes, and minimise medicines-related risks.

This role demands hands-on implementation of improvements. You will be the key liaison with the ICB Medicines Optimisation team and will play a vital role in achieving LES priorities across the four domains:

  • Core MO activities and practice engagement

  • Value/QIPP through cost-effective prescribing

  • Reduction of dependence-forming medicines

  • Medicines quality, safety, and antimicrobial stewardship

By leading the development and refinement of safe, efficient, and patient-centred prescribing systems, you will help shape a sustainable model of medicines use that delivers improved outcomes for our patients and supports the resilience of our workforce.
