Job summary

Following a retirement we are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic salaried GP to join our friendly, supportive and forward thinking team. Our core values are based on fairness and equality, encouraging a good work/life balance.

You may be a GP with experience or newly qualified, wanting to work 6 sessions per week over 3 full days. We are looking for you to enjoy working in our team delivering high quality medical care.

Main duties of the job

The core responsibilities as a General Practitioner are:

  • Perform clinical examinations of patients to assess, diagnose and monitor conditions
  • Carry out patient consultations at home and within the surgery
  • Monitor patients' conditions and wellbeing
  • Carry out clinical examinations
  • Diagnose and treat various illnesses/ailments
  • Liaise with other healthcare professionals (e.g., midwives, pharmacists, health visitors and psychiatrists) as part of multidisciplinary teams

You will be included in a rota to work as the duty doctor, these days and home visits are shared equally within the team. There is also scope to increase your own skills in supporting the GP trainer.

All our clinicians work over both the main and branch sites.

About us

Coltishall Medical Practice has a patient list of just under 9000 with a small branch site 4 miles away in Spixworth. We dispense to around a third of our patients. The surgeries are located in a largely rural area on the beautiful Norfolk Broads, a short drive to both Norwich and the North Norfolk coast.

We have a hard-working, friendly and dedicated team of 3 GP partners, 4 Salaried GPs (including this role), Advance Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associates, Practice Nurses and Assistant Practitioners, supported by a PCN Clinical Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician, Care Coordinators and an excellent administrative staff. We work closely with our PCN, North Norfolk 3, through which we are also able to offer our patients appointments with First Contact Physios, Mental Health Practitioners and Social Prescribers.

As a GP training practice we have a passion for education and excellent patient care, also providing teaching to Medical Students from the local University of East Anglia and regular in-house clinical learning sessions. We also hold monthly practice meetings, including Clinical Governance, GSF and Safeguarding, and quarterly full staff meetings

JOB TITLE: SALARIED GENERAL PRACTITIONER

REPORTS TO: THE PARTNERS (Clinically)

THE BUSINESS MANAGER (Administratively)

Job Summary:

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients. The post holder will be expected to work closely with the Partners and Practice Manager and wider team in all areas to ensure the smooth and safe delivery of primary care.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations at the main surgery (primary place of work) and branch surgery (at least 1 session per week per rota), telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols
  • Providing counselling and health education
  • Referring to other care providers as appropriate
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collecting data for audit purposes
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
  • Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
  • In summary the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
