Job summary

We are seeking to employ an enthusiastic and committed HCA to join our Nursing Team in a busy town Practice.

Part -time (5 - 9 hours)

work pattern

Thursdays

alternate Saturday mornings

possible ad-hoc hours at other times to cover team absence.

Main duties of the job

To support the practice nursing and administrative teams in the delivery of clinical and administrative services, working as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.

The Healthcare Assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education while also supporting the administrative team on an as-required basis.

Banbury Alliance PCN is a network of three partnership practices, serving 30,000+ patients in North Oxfordshire. Hightown is the largest practice with a list size of 12,300 patients. You will be working in the one practice, with the advantages that brings of getting to know everyone and quickly becoming very much part of the nursing team, integrated within our friendly, high-achieving, training practice.

Our catchment area is the market town of Banbury and surrounding villages. Banbury is a fast expanding area, with a recent, town-centre canal-side development. It has excellent sporting and cultural facilities, transport links and schools (state and independent) and yet sits in an area of stunning, accessible countryside.

We are a team-orientated, patient-focused, training practice with a strong, multi-disciplinary team, GP trainees and a largely appreciative patient population.

We are looking for a qualified Healthcare Assistant to join the nursing team working at Hightown Surgery.

Our Healthcare Assistant should have general practice experience and a breath of knowledge. They will work independently under the leadership of registered nurses and be part of our highly valued, supportive team of nurses and HCA's.

The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

Undertake new patient health checks

Support the Practice Nurse with health promotion programmes

Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately

Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required

Support the Practice Nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics

Carry out BMI checks as directed

Act as a chaperone as required

When trained, undertake venepuncture

When trained, administer flu vaccinations

Carry out ECGs as requested

Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

Provide support during minor operations as required

Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance

Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policy

Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate

Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead

Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care

Support and participate in shared learning within the organisation

Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota

  • Qualifications appropriate to the role.
  • Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4)
  • HCA Care Certificate
  • Experience working as a Healthcare Assistant preferably in Primary Care.

Desirable

  • Phlebotomy certification
  • Vaccination certification
  • Ability to record accurate clinical notes
  • New patient medicals, including height, weight, BP, pulse
  • Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure
