Job summary

We are seeking a forward-thinking individual to join our friendly and efficient nursing team.

The successful applicant must be prepared to work at either of our two surgery sites, Totton Health Centre or Forest Gate Surgery, both based in Totton, Southampton. 

This vacancy is for 20 hours per week over 4 working days.

Main duties of the job

Reporting in the first instance to the Nursing Team Staff Lead, the successful candidate for this role will have excellent administrative and communication skills with a proven history of being well organised and highly motivated to achieve. They must have the ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a team to ensure smooth running of the clinical administrative function for the practice nursing team. Proven extensive knowledge of Word and Excel software packages is essential. Previous Rota Management and Stock Control/inventory knowledge is desirable and would be a distinct advantage.

About us

We are a two-site partnership with a practice population of circa 25,000 patients.

An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check is required as the role will involve carrying out administrative tasks at our regular child immunisation clinics.

Job responsibilities

  • To manage and oversee Stock Control/Inventory for the Nursing Team

  • Input data during child immunisation clinics

  • Use NHS Systems in order to support daily activities e.g. EMIS Web, Docman etc. (Training will be provided)
  • To liaise with other members of NHMP staff as appropriate e.g. IT, Care Co-ordinators, GPs etc.

  • To attend Team meetings and cascade knowledge as appropriate – previous experience taking minutes would be advantageous
  • To carry out any other tasks deemed suitable for the grade

  • Nursing Team Rota support

This role is a part-time vacancy for 20 hours per week over 4 working days.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a large team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt to service needs whilst working in a busy environment
  • Must be willing and have ability to extend role if required. Appropriate training to be agreed and provided by the Partnership
  • Must be able to work within the rules governing patient confidentiality
  • Good knowledge of microsoft packages including Word and Excel is essential

Desirable

  • Previous Rota Management and Stock Control/inventory knowledge is desirable and would be a distinct advantage

Training, Health & Safety and Performance

Essential

  • TRAINING - To maintain skills and any certification required for all aspects of the job holders role. To attend all training as required including Fire Lecture, Resuscitation update, Safeguarding, Manual Handling and Infection Control; this is not an exhaustive list.
  • HEALTH & SAFETY - To ensure safe working practice at all times. To adhere to the Infection Control procedures as per practice policy. To attend Health and Safety courses that may be deemed appropriate from time to time.
  • PERFORMANCE - To participate in annual performance appraisal.
