Job summary

Our busy medical centre has had an exciting opportunity for a Health Care Assistant to join us to cover maternity leave for 12 months.

The Grange Medical Centre is centrally located in Nuneaton. It is close to the town centre and a short walk from the train and bus stations. We serve a population of over 12000 patients and strive to give the best possible care we can.

You would be joining a team of 2 Practice Nurses, 1 Health Care Assistant and 1 Trainee Nurses Associate.

Main duties of the job

The role of Health Care Assistant will include the following:

- Wound care management

- Blood pressure management

- NHS health checks

- Diet and weight management

- Medication reviews

- Ear irrigation

- Administering injections (subject to training and experience)

The role also includes training up and becoming the infection control lead for the organisation which involves regular audits and policy reviews.

You would also be expected to provide support to the GP's during minor surgery and womens health clinics.

About us

At The Grange Medical Centre we have a large friendly team which consists of 7 GP's, 3 nurses, HCA and TNA. We also have an extended ARRS role support of clinical pharmacists, first contact physiotherapists, social prescribers, care coordinators and mental health workers. These are all supported by a large reception team and admin team.

RESPONSIBLE TO:

Practice Manager

Clinically to the GP Partners

MAIN PURPOSE

To assist the medical personnel with the care of patients. This will include treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education. The post will also include some administrative duties.

GENERAL

As part of the nursing team the HCA will be employed to undertake nursing and administrative duties as deemed suitable by the Partners. Full training will be given prior to any patient contact. The role involves the use of the computer and keyboard skills along with the ability to organise and prioritise a varied workload are necessary.

They will be required to act in a professional manner at all times and adhere to practice policies, protocols and guidelines.

1.Training

Training will initially be provided in house. Training requirements will be monitored by yearly appraisal. Personal development will be encouraged and supported by the practice. Its the individuals responsibility to remain up to date with recent developments.

2. Accountability

Although accountable to the partners of the practice through the practice manager as an employee, they are ultimately responsible for their own practice and must ensure that limitations are always acknowledged. Full training will be provided for any clinical procedures.

3.Administration

All records need to be kept clearly and contemporaneously on the computer.

4.Meetings

It will be necessary to attend various Practice meetings as requested. The only reason for not attending will be annual, study or sick leave.

5.Liaison

As well as the nursing team, the nursing assistant will work closely with reception staff and will be expected to communicate and liaise with the all other members of the Practice team.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Nursing

  • BP monitoring
  • Urinalysis
  • ECG measurement
  • Weight monitoring
  • Chaperone patients as necessary
  • Injections B12, flu etc
  • Provide lifestyle advice to patients making any necessary referrals within the Practice
  • Health Promotion
  • Restocking/maintenance of equipment
  • Restocking of clinical areas and consulting rooms
  • Infection control audits
  • Lead on infection control policy

2. Administration and professional responsibilities

Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team

Ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes

Ensure the clinical computer system is kept up to date with accurate details recorded

Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the practice

Attend and participate in practice meetings as required

To assist in seasonal and special projects as requested e.g. flu campaign
