Job summary

Salaried GP required at the Park Surgery Driffield, East Yorkshire.

We are a 7 partner semi-rural practice looking for a GP for up to 8 clinical sessions.

  • GMS practice with list size of approximately 15,000
  • Purpose built premises 2011
  • Dispensing to approximately 47% of patients with practice pharmacist
  • Advanced Training Practice (VTS, FY2, undergraduate)
  • Excellent nursing team including ANPs
  • Includes village branch surgery

Salary £10k per nominal session

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a salaried GP to join our busy, medical practice team for up to 8 clinical sessions per week. You will need to be capable and confident in GP triage of patients and be used to and able to manage a busy workload including relevant administration. The practice is open from 8.00 am - 6.30 pm Monday to Friday with extended hours being held on a Monday evening until 8.00 pm.

About us

We are based in the East Yorkshire market town of Driffield. Driffield is a market town of 13,000 people. The rural area contains a further 12,000 people.The practice has approximately 15,000 patients. These are served from the Park Surgery in Driffield and the Branch Surgery in Nafferton. We dispense NHS drugs to about half our patients.The Park Surgery is a purpose-built medical facility which we moved into in February 2011. The Branch Surgery is in a converted bungalow in the village of Nafferton.The Practice is a partnership of seven GPs, 1 employed GP, four Practice Nurses, four Advanced Nurse Practitioners, four Healthcare Assistants and about thirty support staff (receptionists, dispensers, secretaries, and administrators).We are an approved practice for vocational training of GPs and are also involved in medical training and have FY2 doctors and medical students regularly at the practice.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Providing medical services to patients at Driffield and upon occasions as demand requires, at Nafferton.

GP triage of patients requesting appointments and allocating the patient to the most appropriate healthcare professional (including yourself).

The practice operates a system a Duty Doctor system. The full day runs from 8.00 am until 6.00 pm and is rotated between GPs. You may be expected to participate in this rota.

Travel within the practice area to attend an average of 3 home visits per day, (excluding residential/nursing care homes).

Dealing with paperwork, correspondence and test results associated with patient care.

Ensuring the safe handover of patient care at the end of the day when urgent needs required.

Providing Choice and Choose & Book to the patient who is being referred for Secondary Care.

For the purpose of patient care and the Quality & Outcomes Framework, maintain accurate records electronically within agreed Practice procedures.

The practitioner is also required to participate in and operate clinical governance methods and systems approved by the Partnership or by NHS East Riding of Yorkshire, e.g. medical audit or quality assurance initiatives.

Adherence to the GMCs Good Medical Practice guidance and requirements for GP appraisal and revalidation.

Liaising with other members of the Primary Care Health Team and other agencies as appropriate, to ensure good relationships are maintained at all times with patients, colleagues and other agencies.

Carrying out work considered outside the NHS, such as medical examinations, certificates and reports etc where the income is retained by the employer. All fees received by you, by virtue of your position in the practice, shall be paid to the Practice.

Maintaining a high standard of care to patients by showing a commitment to continuing professional development and by participation in practice, clinical and training meetings.

Medication queries in relation to your own patients but not day to day Dispensary business issues.

Management of an agreed clinical/administrative area dependant on experience.

Work within practice policies on prescribing, referral and other general clinical issues, which the Practice as a whole will from time to time agree.

Carrying out other duties, both clinical and administrative, as are commensurate with the position.

Practice Meetings are held on Mondays and you are invited to attend. .

Additional sessions The practice may agree with the practitioner that he or she should undertake work which is not specified in this Job Plan, by way of additional nominal sessions or fractions thereof. The extra session(s) shall be remunerated on a pro rata basis.

You will be allocated a fair share of named patients and will be in charge of the coordination of their care.

Annual leave entitlement is 6 weeks (pro rata).

Study/Professional Leave All study leave must first be agreed and approved at the practice meeting. Any study leave/CPD taken as part or full working days will need to be compensated by agreement (to recover lost surgery time). Alternatively, they can be taken as part of your annual leave.

Scheduled mentoring meeting at CPD time say quarterly or alternate months to be agreed.

The practice does not currently operate out of hours but if the practice has to provide this service, it would be expected that you will participate in this rota.
