Job summary
Balham Park Surgery are looking for a driven, well organised, forward thinking Pharmacy Technician to work within the Prescrbing team at the Surgery, who compliment and support the wider clinical and non-clinical team.
The role is varied and the right inidvidual will have interactions with a wide range of staff including GPs, Nurses and Management.
Main duties of the job
The Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for processing repeat prescriptions, rationalising prescribed medications, organisation medication reviews and performing MURs, developing and implementing pharmacy based audits, working closely with the Surgery Pharmacists to improve medication processes within the surgery and supporting the wider clinical and non-clinical team.

Balham Park Surgery is a large GP Practice based within the South West London ICB. Serving 21,000 patients, the surgery has multidisciplinary team, comprising of GPs, Nurses, Physiotherapists, Pharmacists, Physicians Associates, Social Prescribers, and an experienced management and administrative team. We are a freindly team and support development and training in house and externally.

The following are the core responsibilities of the Pharmacy Technician There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
- Contribute to the provision of safe and effective pharmacy services.
- Undertake medicines reconciliation in line with practice protocols and standard operating procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of prescriptions and repeat prescriptions.
- Respond to patients questions both face to face and over the phone; referring problems or queries to the pharmacist.
- Participate in patient reviews and updating of patient records via clinics in the practice, domiciliary visits and in nursing and residential care homes.
- Checking the accuracy of medicines for prescriptions.
- Participate in medication audits.
- Provide advice and information to GPs, staff and patients to support the improvement of prescribing safety, quality, cost-effectiveness and the appropriate use of medicines to get the best outcomes for patients.
- Assist in the monitoring and management of prescribing budgets and the preparation of evidence-based resources and information that support cost-effective prescribing.
- Take responsibility for contributing to all aspects of the day-to-day management of the working environment including communication, data accuracy and management, keeping practice areas tidy and helping to achieve a supportive, positive culture across the practice team.
- Support and promote a safe working environment in accordance with Health & Safety and Infection Control policies.
- Respect and protect patient confidentiality and information.
- Keep up to date with professional responsibilities and CPD requirements.
- Supervise and train other pharmacy staff such as pre-registration pharmacy technicians
