Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job The Physician Associate (PA) will work collaboratively with designated GP practices across the PCN. This will involve seeing patients with acute and chronic conditions and assisting the primary care team. The successful candidate will work independently whilst receiving mentorship and supervision from designated senior GP’s. All PAs will benefit from monthly PA meetings for protected learning time. Newly qualified PA’s commencing their preceptorship year will gain monthly support from experienced PA’s in the form of learning through case based discussions and tutorials. The PA will work with a newly established frailty team one to two days per week. This team will involve physician associates as well as advanced nurse practitioners, care coordinators, a first contact practitioner and pharmacists with support from GP’s. This multi-disciplinary team will be based within a newly acquired hub in the local area. The MDT will provide assessment and care to house bound patients based on agreed criteria. The PA will provide the initial history taking and clinical assessment through to diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of care. They will demonstrate critical thinking in clinical decision-making and will work collaboratively with other professional colleagues to promote and meet the needs of their patients.

About us

We currently have 5 PAs employed throughout the PCN and are looking to recruit more. This new team of PA's will work collaboratively within local GP practices in St Helens South PCN 4 days a week and will spend one day a week working in the frailty team. There are 4 PCNs within St Helens, with St Helens South being the largest of these PCNs. St Helens South PCN is comprised of 13 GP practices with a patient population of 86000.
