Job summary

Comberton and Eversden Surgeries are looking for a qualified Dispenser to join our friendly team.

The ideal candidate will have a positive and professional outlook and have a good understanding of daily Dispensary tasks. This includes dealing with patients in a courteous and efficient manner whilst ensuring that patient safety is always adhered to.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To process and dispense all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing Nurses where appropriate in accordance with the principles of good practice
  • Operation of efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the Dispensary with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage
  • Collection of prescription charges/checking patient exemption statements
  • Dealing with telephone and email queries from patients regarding their prescriptions
  • Handling controlled drugs (and keeping register)
  • Assisting when required to meet targets in relation to Dispensing Doctor's scheme
  • To endorse all prescription forms as appropriate, collate and forward the forms in a secure manner to the PPA for processing and reimbursement
  • Checking with GPs or in patients' records if concerned about the appropriateness of requests for medication
  • Taking orders for repeats and dealing with queries from District Nurses and support staff
  • Using the computer to keep records up-to-date whilst adhering to UK GDPR at all times
  • Maintaining full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions
  • To ensure that drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the accompanying instructions
  • Receive and unpack drug orders
  • Assist in other areas of the Dispensary as required by the Dispensary Manager

About us

Comberton and Eversden Surgeries are based at the Cambridgeshire villages of Comberton and Eversden. We have a practice list size of approximately 9,700 patients. Our staff work at both Practices which is roughly a 5 minute drive between the two.

We are currently changing our computer system to SystmOne which will be up and running in September.
