Job summary

This vacancy is ideal for a part time or portfolio career GP, or perhaps someone who may have responsibilities that means working formal session times can be prohibitive. As this is a support role, we can offer a degree of flexibility with the session start/finish times.

Whilst the expectation is that the role can be carried out remotely in the main, there will be many opportunities for the successful candidate to develop good working relationships with practice colleagues and attend virtual and in house training / updates / meetings to further their professional development

About us

Portsdown Group Practice covers the whole of Portsmouth from postcodes PO1 to PO7. We operate

from 6 surgeries: Cosham Park House (PO6 3BG), Crookhorn Lane (PO7 5XP, Heyward Road (PO4

0DY), Kingston Crescent (PO2 8AL), Paulsgrove (PO6 4HJ), and Somerstown (PO5 4EZ).

We are our own Primary Care Network (PCN). We have 12 Clinical Partners, 12 Salaried GPs and a

comprehensive Nursing team overseen by a Clinical Team Manager and consisting of 15 Nurse /

Paramedic Practitioners, 14 Registered Nurses, and 12 HCAs. We have a Pharmacy team of 4 Clinical

Pharmacists and 2 Pharmacy Technicians. Additionally we have a team of 2 Physician Associates, a

team of 3 MSK Physio Therapists and care co-ordinators.

The Practice is well established, financially secure and successful. Over the last few years we have

earned maximum QOF points.

Our last CQC Inspection was in January 2020. We were rated Good overall and Outstanding for

the care we provide to Working Age People.

Main Purpose of the Post:

To provide predominantly remote support to the practice for eConsultations and administrative work to ensure high standards of patient care

Duties & Responsibilities of the Post:

Clinical

Use your professional skill and knowledge to provide a high standard of primary and continuing medical care to patients in line with the GMS contract

Issue and authorise (EPS / signature) computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions in accordance with the Practice / Portsmouth CCG prescribing formulary, whenever this is clinically appropriate. Dealing with prescription queries.

Complete clinically related administrative and non-clinical duties needed for the delivery of the service for

NHS and non-NHS agencies, e.g. solicitors, insurance companies and other third parties

Summarise patient records and read-code patient data

Process and action incoming patient and hospital correspondence.

Undertake remote consultations that are required as a result of patient initiated eConsult

Refer patients to other care providers as appropriate, utilising e-Referrals where required in a timely manner and in line with Practice and CCG guidelines.

Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards, ensuring appropriate use of clinical system templates and read codes.

Request, perform and / or interpret tests and records, reports and examination information to assist in diagnosis of patients condition. Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination and other appropriate medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease or injury. Monitor patients condition and progress and re-evaluate and / or change treatments as necessary.

Comply with all the objectives of PGP, the GMS Contract, QoF and Enhanced Services targets, CCG DoH, GMC, NHSE, CQC and other statutory bodies requirements / arrangements,

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the practice Health & Safety policy, the practice Health & Safety manual, and the practice Infection Control policy and published procedures. This will include:

Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines

Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks

Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills

Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards

Actively reporting of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised

Keeping own work areas and general / patient areas generally clean, assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness consistent with the scope of the job holders role

Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimum annually)
