Job summary

We are recruiting for an enthusiastic and experienced Health Care Assistant to join our clinical team for part time hours up to 20 hours weekly dependant on experience.

Main duties of the job

  • Phlebotomy
  • Hypertension monitoring
  • Diabetic foot checks
  • NHS health checks
  • Assist with the seasonal influenza.
  • Pneumococcal, Shingles and B12 clinics
  • Health promotion clinics
  • Understanding of the important of policies and procedures
  • Participate in QOF & CQC
  • Attend PLTs
  • Related clinical administration.
  • Stock ordering, checking and date rotation
  • Dressings including removal of sutures and staples
  • Home visits
  • ECG,
  • Chaperoning,
  • BP averaging,
  • Urinalysis,
  • minor surgery set up and assists,
  • ear syringing,
  • Sign posting to other members of the multidisciplinary team as appropriate.
  • Any other duties within your remit as deemed necessary by your line manger

About us

Abbey Medical Centre is a small friendly training practice with a list size of around 5.5k patients. The HCA role will be supported by two experienced practice nurses as well as the clinical, admin and management team.

To ensure we can continuously meet the patient demand for healthcare we are always looking at our team and their needs to ensure we have a good balance. Our staff are a long-standing team who pull together to help each other and the wider population offering respect, dignity and quality care.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will:

work under indirect supervision of Lead Nurse and GP's

assist the Practice nurse team in the service delivery of the care management of the practice population, working together to meet the needs of the patient.

recognise and understand the role and responsibilities of the Health Care Assistant within Primary Care.

be familiar with working under PSD

undertake tasks and duties delegated. Working collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of the patients, following policies and procedures.

require good communication skills

use and adopt best practice for health and safety, infection control and record keeping.

understand cold chain, storage, rotation practices and apply.

know the general principles of first aid and basic life support to be able to take action if required.

assist in clinical audits, promote good health and contribute to practice protocols or standards, ensuring personal actions are consistent with clinical governance

have experience of working within a nursing team

be a car driver

have a basic understanding of long term conditions.

update the patient record using System One, inputting accurate read codes in a timely fashion.

understand the concept of accountability and responsibility and be confident to accept delegated responsibility for a registered practitioner after necessary preparatory training.

attend practice and group meetings within the practice.

complete statutory training/updates and mandatory training as specified by the practice.

take responsibility for own development, learning and performance and identify gaps in knowledge and skills.
