Job Opportunity at Quayside Medical Practice, Newhaven

Part Time Experienced Phlebotomist - 16.5hrs

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced part-time Phlebotomist to join our Nursing Team at the Quayside Medical Practice in Newhaven.

We are looking for an individual who is clinically skilled with blood taking.

You will have undertaken phlebotomy training and have a minimum of 1 year experience in blood taking. General Practice experience desirable.

Working under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, the post holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient population. In addition, the Phlebotomist will be expected to support the nursing team on an as required basis.

You will need to be a team player with excellent communication skills, IT and organisational skills and a positive attitude and commitment to General Practice and the NHS. It would be useful if you have experience of EMIS system

 

Main duties of the job

The role will be 16.5 hours per week

Working days and times: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday - 08.30 14.00, with half an hour break

Annual leave and sickness cover will also be required when requested, sometimes at short notice.

Chaperoning

2. Promoting health by:

Raising awareness of health & well being and how it can be promoted

3. Assisting other clinical practitioners by:

a. Assisting at Vaccination / Immunisation Clinics

4. Maintaining the clinical environment by:

a. Ensuring nurses rooms are clean and prepared

b. Cleaning and preparing clinical equipment

c. Managing clinical stock control

d. Maintaining Vaccine / cold chain storage

5. Ensuring efficiency and safety by:

a. Providing administrative support for appointments system, clinics and patients records

b. Notifying an appropriate GP / Nurse of any significant patient issues

c. Processing and managing specimens / samples

d. Working within own level of competence at all times
