Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic and innovative team. As a Practice Pharmacy Technician, you'll be an essential part of our well-established Pharmacy team, undertaking various responsibilities with the support of our Clinical Pharmacist.

Main duties of the job

Our Pharmacy Technician will work under the supervision of a Clinical Pharmacist to ensure the safe, accurate and timely supply of prescribed medication. The purpose of the role is to lead improvements to maximise safe, cost effective best practice in prescribing medication to improve the quality of patient care.

About us

Our well established and respected Practice is currently running across three sites as we await the build of our new state of the art Medical Centre. We pride ourselves on being a training practice supporting GP trainees and medical students from across the North West.

We are a large practice with over 15,000 patients, supported by a very experienced clinical and administrative team. The team includes doctors, advanced nurse practitioners, pharmacists, physician associates, care co-ordinators, nursing associates and a large administrative and reception team.

We are preferably looking for a full time employee but we would consider part time, flexible working requests.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the main responsibilities of the Pharmacy Technician. There may be a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon workload and competencies:

-To support the Clinical Pharmacist as the point of contact for some medicines related matters.

-To process repeat medication requests and triage acute medication requests between our pharmacist and GPs.

- Support with medication reviews within your competency and amend review dates following medication and long-term condition reviews.

-To issue repeat prescriptions in line with clinical protocols and within your competency

-Provide information to patients within own competency regarding medicines and prescribing changes, initiating further support from other healthcare professionals where appropriate.

-Support initiatives to reduce waste of prescribed medicines

-To undertake medicines reconciliation post discharge and on other transfers of care

-To update and maintain accurate and timely patient medication records on our practice EMIS system.

-To adhere to Practice clinical governance

Support the Clinical pharmacist in ensuring MHRA drug alerts are acted upon within practice.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacy Technician
  • BTEC/NVQ3 Pharmacy services (or equivalent)
  • Experience working as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician

Desirable

  • EMIS user skills
  • Full Driving License
