Job summary

We are looking to employ a Medical Summarisier to work within our Admin Team.

As a Medical Summariser you will be the first person to read and assess each clinical letter that arrives into the Practice.

Under the directionof other members of the Document Management Team you will read each letter and action any administration actions along with read-coding the patients medical record with any relevant medical information and then forwarding to anyone else who may need to action or be informed of any significant information.

The role is challenging and never the same day twice. The applicant will be handling sensitive and complex information, that will require confidentiality and accurate management.

The Practice works with EMIS Web Clinic System and DOCMAN 10, experience of both would be an advantage but training would be given to the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

The main responsbilities of that post-holder will be to summarise and Read-Code relevant information from patients clinical records into the practice computer system, working strictly in accordance with the practice notes summarising protocol. The post-holder will also offer additional administrative support to the Admin Team.

In addition to GPs, the practice also employs Physician Associates, Practice Nurses and Healthcare Assistants as well as being an established GP training practice. We also have a big Reception and Administration teams working collaboratively with the Healthcare Professionals to enhance patient care and their experiences within the Practice.

Main Duties / Key Tasks

  • Scanning in of all paper letters into Docman
  • Reviewing each medical letter and read-coding any relevant medical information as per Practice Protocols as specified by the clinical team.
  • Streamlining the flow of clinical correspondence through the organisation reducing the number of letters with a GP needs to process where there is uncertainty, it will be forwarded to a clinician for safety
  • Read coding information to help gather data for QOF and other targeted work the Practice is involved with.
  • Raise any concerns or issues proactively and in a timely manner to your Line Manager or the Practice Manager in their absence
