Job summary

The Benchill Medical Practice are looking for a 4-8 session Salaried GP to support our increasing list size and join our team of 4 Partners and 4 Salaried Doctors, plus a full time Physician Associate and Practice employed Pharmacist. We are conveniently located close to the vibrant city centre of Manchester with good transport links to the practice.

We are a 10,000 list size GMS training practice using EMIS web, Docman 10 and a digital triage system (AccuRx).

We are asupportive team and are pleased to work with colleagues at all points of their careers.

The practice is committed to training doctors of the future and is a training practice for ST2 and ST3 doctors. 

We are part of a well established Primary Care Network.

We are committed to ongoing training and all our staff have regular clinical meetings including monthly educations sessions, significant events and mentoring sessions.

Main duties of the job

To work as an independent practitioner and also as part of the wider team, responsible for the provision of medical service to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care in line with the GMS contract provision of services.

The post holder will adhere to GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive and collaborative working relationship with the wider team.

We are a GP Training Practice. We are situated in a large modern NHS building and we aim to foster a warm and welcoming work environment. Our loyal administrative staff have all been with us for many years and are a vital part of the team.We have a very experienced nursing team with our own employed Community Practice Nurse meeting the needs of our housebound population and their LTC needs. There is a wide range of community services working with us including Community Nursing Teams, Specialist Palliative care Teams, Community Mental Health Team and Health Visitors.

Job responsibilities

Job Summary:

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Clinical Responsibilities:

In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation

Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health

Providing counselling and health education

Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards

Collecting data for audit purposes

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)

Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other Responsibilities within the Organisation:

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety

A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice

Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation

Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records

Contributing to the summarising of patient records and Read-Coding patient data

Attending training and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
