We are currently looking to employ a part time Practice Nurse to start as soon as possible.

Salary Dependant on experience and Qualifications

We are a 3 Partner Practice who have recently taken over Ewood surgery and are therefore looking to recruit a Practice Nurse to work over 2 sites (Ewood Surgery and Primrose Bank) for 30 hours or more per week.

We require someone who is committed, highly motivated, enthusiastic, flexible ( as the position will cover 2 sites) and a good team player. You will have excellent communication and problem solving skills.

Main duties of the job

Our surgery works with the Emis web system, our practice list is approximately 10,000 patients, Drs currently provide extended access appointments from 7.30am which could mean an early start, the surgeries close at 6.30pm each night.

As a Practice Nurse you would be responsible for the delivery of general practice nursing to the whole practice population. Including:

  • Diagnose and manage chronic conditions

  • Manage respiratory conditions

  • Cervical cytology

  • Routine immunisations and vaccinations

  • Contraception advice/checks

  • Health screening

  • Travel vaccinations and advice

  • Baby immunisations

  • Phlebotomy

  • Urinalysis

  • Blood pressure checks

  • Dietary advice
  • QOF Lead

  • Primrose Bank Medical Centre and Ewood Medical Centre a 3 partners GP practice caring for nearly 10,000 patients.
  • Primrose Bank Medical Centre is situated very close to Blackburn Town Centre. It was purpose-built as a GP Surgery and opened in October 1999. An extension was later added in 2006. The surgery houses 5 Consulting Rooms, 2 Nurse Rooms, fully seated waiting room, disabled toilet access and staff working areas. We have a large conference room on the first floor in which we hold our annual MacMillian Coffee Morning and Christmas Carol service. We have ample parking including disabled parking. We are very proud of the service we provide and hope we are able to fully support the health needs of you and your family. We are committed to providing a high standard of care and we are keen to develop our services which will benefit our patients.
  • Ewood Medical Centre is situated very close to Ewood Football Ground, next to boots chemist on Bolton Road. Its a two terraced house joint together. At Ewood we have 3 clinical rooms, parking and entrance situated at the back of the surgery. It has Disable toilet waiting rooms upstairs and downstairs.
  • Across both sites we have 3 GP partners, Practice Nurse, HCA, Clinical Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician, Psychological Practitioner, Mental Health Practitioner, Medical Secretary, Scanning Admin, Locum ANPs and GPs and Receptionists.

Job Summary:

The post holder is responsible for the delivery of general practice nursing to the whole practice population. The focus of the role is both the delivery of evidence-based practice for patients presenting with a long-term condition, and the provision of preventative health care to the practice population. As an autonomous practitioner the nurse is responsible for the management of patients. They will work collaboratively within the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, support the delivery of policy and procedures, and provide nurse leadership as required. The post holder will be required to work at any one of the 2 sites.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing treatments to patients in participation with general practitioners or independently to agreed protocols.

  • Provide general and specific health screenings to the Practice patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to general practitioners as necessary.

  • Advise patients on general health care and minor ailments with referral to GPs as necessary.

You will be fully conversant in QOF QOEST, read coding and uphold strategies to provide a holistic combined healthcare for the patient and demonstrate a willingness to participate in research/audit within the practice team.

You will be aware of DES/LES/IIF policies and apply and produce, alongside the Practice Manager, protocols that reflect the guidelines that are workable in the practice.

Participate in the education of students of all disciplines.

To adhere to strict Infection Control in line with guidelines and policies.

Supplies and equipment Treatment room and other areas

  • In participation with the Practice Manager/Nurse Practitioner/Nurse, ensure the maintenance of equipment and stock levels relating to patient care.

Pathological specimens and investigatory procedures

  • Following appropriate training, undertake the collection, storage and despatch of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears etc and ensure the cleanliness of any equipment so used. Perform any investigatory procedures requested by the GPs.

Administrative and professional responsibilities

  • Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the Practice team.

  • Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes on the clinical computer system as appropriate.

  • Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the Practice.

  • Ensure appropriate items of service claims are made accurately, reporting any problems to the Practice Manager

  • Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports.

  • Attend and participate in Practice meetings as required.

  • Maintain a notice board in the waiting area designated for patient health care education.

  • Maintenance of equipment and stock relating to patient care

    Teamwork
