Job summary

Primrose Bank and Ewood Medical Centre are currently looking to recruit a highly motivated, hard working individual to join our reception team.

The position is part time, 25 Hours, Monday to Friday. The post holder will be expected to provide their services at both of the Practice Sites: Primrose Bank and Ewood Medical Centre.

As a member of frontline staff you will be the first point of contact for our service users and visitors. You will need to be non-judgemental with excellent communication and listening skills.

Previous experience of working in General Practice is NOT essential but the ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team is.

Our computer system is Emis web, previous experience is preferred but not essential as training will be given.

Our opening hours are 8am - 6:30pm Monday to Friday. The successful applicant will need to have some flexibility in being able to work different hours to cover annual leave or sickness.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking a wide range of reception/admin duties. Duties will include, but are not limited to, greeting patients, booking appointments, making and directing telephone calls, processing information, assisting patients where necessary, manage practice emails, liaise with local community teams and external agencies.

Main duties:

Process telephone and e-requests for appointments

Signpost patients to the most appropriate service (Care navigate)

Answer / transfer incoming calls to the most appropriate person

Record contact information in the patient record

Register new patients

Photocopying / filing

Action and reply to emails

Adhere to the practices policies and procedures

Complete any required training

Maintain a clean and tidy workspace

Support clinical staff with general tasks

About us

Primrose Bank and Ewood Medical Centre are busy practices with sites near town centre and near Rovers football ground in Blackburn. Our current list size is around 9600 patients.

We are a friendly GP Training Practice. Our team consists of 3 GP Partners, 1 Locum GP, 2 Advance Nurse Practitioner, 1 Physician Associates, 2 Clinical Pharmacist, 1 Pharmacy Technician, 1 Practice Nurse, Locum Practice Nurses, 1 Health Care assistant, 1 secretary and of course our administration team.

We are also part of North PCN (Primary Care Network, which is a collaboration of around 5-6 local practices). Being part of the PCN has enabled us to have access to a clinical pharmacist, and other local community based services within the Blackburn with Darwen area.

  • The successful candidate must have: Good standard of education. Experience of working in a busy reception environment. Experience of working with the public. Excellent communication skills. Good computer knowledge and typing skills.

Desirable

  • Experience of working within a GP practice or other Health Care setting would be desirable. Knowledge of EMIS Web

Qualifications

Essential

  • A good level of English and Maths is essential. GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths.

Desirable

  • Customer service experience.
