Job summary
We are looking for 2 part-time qualified phlebotomists to join our dedicated nursing team. Ideally we would be offering 15 hours per post which will be worked over 5 days (Monday to Friday).
We are looking for important phlebotomist skills such as presence of mind, people skills and attention to detail. You must have a recognised qualification in phlebotomy and have knowledge of venepuncture techniques. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting patient care by performing safe and efficent blood collection procedures.
Main duties of the job
- Ensuring that the patient is comfortable and as relaxed as possible, confirming their agreement and understanding to the collection of a blood sample.
- Checking patient identification against the GP/Nurse/other health professional request and confirming this with the patient.
- Accurate collection and labelling of the blood samples to reduce the risk of rejected samples and incorrect patient details.
- Ensuring samples are collected and dispatched in a timely manner to the correct laboratories.
- Working within the practice infection control processes/procedures. to ensure a clean and safe environment.
- Recording collection of blood samples in the patients' electronic medical records
- Ordering of stock and equipment to ensure adequate supplies.
- Liaising with the nursing team and alerting them to any concerns.
- Undertake administrative duties as required of the role.
- To conduct ECG's (where appropriately trained) as requested by the clinical team.
- To undertake urinalysis (where appropriately trained) as requested by the clinical team.
- To attend in-house clinical meeting and Protected Learning Events (PLT) where advised.

The post holder must work as part of a team, can organise and prioritise their own work load on a day-to-day basis, and always observe strict riles about confidentiality. Clinically they must also know their limits of their own capabilities and seek direction from a Pratcie Nurse or Managing Partner. Working under the supervision of practice nursing team and strictly in accordance with specific practice or national guidelines and protocols, the Phlebotomist will be responsible for performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients only as the result of a direct referral form a GP, Nurse Practitioner, or annual recall.
