Job summary
Job Summary:
This role is an exciting opportunity to join our small Nursing Team for 13.5
hours per week working Wednesday to Friday Mornings with once monthly extended
access sessions on a Wednesday evening running 18:00-20:00.
The role comprises of face-to-face clinical time as well as managing the
stock of vaccines and completing the PPA return monthly on behalf of the Health
Centre.
Annual Leave starts at 25 days per year plus bank holidays (pro rata)
and increases dependent on long service.
The hourly rate is £12.58 which is reviewed annually.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role include working in the treatment room and actioning/recording:
- Urinalysis
and preparation of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratory
- Blood Pressure
- Pulse rate and rhythm
- Temperature
- Height and Weight
- Venepuncure
- ECG
- Basic Dressings
- Ear Irrigation
- INR Star
- NHS Health Checks
- LD and SMI Monitoring
- Chaperone when needed

About South Brent Health Centre:
South Brent Health centre has a patient population of just under 6,000
patients. With 4 GP Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, a Nursing Team comprising of 5
individuals, a small Management Team of 3 and a joint Reception and Admin team
of 9.
The Surgery is part of the South Dartmoor and Totnes Primary Care
Network meaning with work closely with four local surgeries.

Essential
- Experience in NHS or GP surgery
- Experience of dealing with the public/patients
- Competency in venepuncture and BP
Desirable
- Performing Phlebotomy in Primary Care
- Dressings / wound care / suture and staple removal
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Demonstrates a basic understanding of the needs of the patient and the role of the HCA
- An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality
- Ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness and common sense
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to deal tactfully and empathetically with distressed or anxious patients
- Ability to work within a team and on own
- Ability to work to scheduled timelines
- Be able to prioritise own workload
Desirable
- Ability to handle simple medical equipment e.g. ECG machine
- Competent in basic health care assistant duties
- Computer & IT skills
- Able and willing to teach others
Qualifications

- Willingness to undertake appropriate training required for the role
- Willingness to undertake further education/training

- NVQ Level 2/3 or QCF Diploma Level 2 or 3 health care
- GCSE Grade A-C English and mathematics
