Job summary

We are seeking an experienced Health Care Assistant to work within our nursing team to play an important role complementing and enhancing the Rise Park Surgery team. This is a part time role for 30 hours per week over 3 days (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday). We are open one Saturday morning a month and these sessions are shared equally amongst the team therefore we would anticipate one Saturday morning in 2 or 3 months.

We would consider job share and overtime to cover holidays and sickness is available.

We are have recently undertaken an extension and redevelopment of our building and we are now looking for a like minded team member to help us care for our patients. Successful applicants will be working in a brand new clinical space which has been constructed and modified to our requirements.

Main duties of the job

As an experienced Healthcare Assistant at Rise Park Surgery you will be expected to help support the nursing team to function effectively and you will contribute to the delivery of safe and effective, high quality nursing care to the practice population.

About us

Rise Park Surgery is a vibrant, team orientated Nottingham city General Practice serving 9100 patients. We have a great work ethic; caring for our patients, our community and the team around us is paramount to all that we do.

We are currently undergoing an expansion programme and as such we are looking to add to our team.

We have 4 GP partners, an ANP partner, 3 salaried GP's, 2 x NP's, 1 x nurses, 1 x Nurse Associate, 2 x HCA's and an efficient and supportive administration team.

We are a GP training practice and we have a CQC 'Good' rating. We use 'systmone' (training is available if you haven't used it before) and we are a leading practice within the Bulwell and Top Valley PCN.

Job summary:

Working under the direct supervision of the Nurse Practitioner and the Practice Nurses and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Duties and responsibilities:

New patient health checks

Wound care

Ear irrigation

Vaccinations, immunisations and B12 injections

Spirometry

Blood pressure monitoring

ECG recording

Phlebotomy

Chaperoning duties

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses

Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording and stock rotation

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of coil and minor surgery procedures

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Able to work under minimal supervision but fully aware when to escalate concerns to a registered healthcare professional.

And any other duties deemed necessary by a healthcare registered professional in order to ensure safe patient care.

Health & Safety

The post-holder will implement and lead on a full range of promotion and management their own and others health and safety and infection control as defined in the practice Health & Safety policy, the practice Health & Safety manual, and the practice Infection Control policy and published procedures. This will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines
  • Awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness and regulatory / contractual / professional requirements, and good practice guidelines
  • Responsible for the correct and safe management of the specimens process, including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transport arrangements
  • Management and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the practice, including provision, ordering, availability and ongoing correct usage by staff
