Job summary
We are excited to announce we are looking for a GP assistant to join our team at De Beauvoir Surgery.
This role will be based at the practice in Hackney with core hours being Monday - Friday. 37.5 hours a week with the occasional Saturday.
Main duties of the job
* Strategic Assistant on the Triage Appointment Pathway
* Assisting and supporting with the management of the day to day operations, including patient queries, rotas, contractors and support of administrative tasks and responsibilities.
* Assisting with the clinical triage (passing appointment requests to the GP, assisting with processing, and recalling the patient for appointments).
* As part of the appointment process providing support to GPs by review of patient history and baseline where requested
* To liaise, assist and support management of the practice in the reception area demonstrating leadership skills.
* Signposting received correspondence/ appointment requests to others, e.g., High St Chemist- clinical pharmacist, practice nurse in collaboration with GPs decision
* The ability to carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording all findings accurately.
* Facilitating routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients and manage requests from local services
* Carrying out BMI checks as directed
* Acting as a chaperone as required
* Extracting all the required information from clinical letters, applying medical codes as required and adding these to patient notes
* Supporting practice patients by arranging appointments, onward referrals, clinical tests and follow up appointments.
Supporting the practice to achieve targets including calls and booking appointments for patients.
About us
We are a large and friendly Doctor's surgery with 12,000+ patients based in South West Hackney. We currently have eight General Practitioners, two Practice Nurses, three Health Care Assistants, a Practice Manager plus a number of reception staff. We are a training practice and have apprentices and teach medical students, Practice Nurse mentoring and host GP Registrars. We have a number of attached staff including a midwife who has a clinic once a week, Diabetic Nurse Specialist, Adult Community Nurses, a Community Matron and Health Visitors working with the practice.

* Supporting GP(s) in liaising with external agencies such as helping to arrange patient admission while the GP(s) continue with the consultation.
* Undertaking all mandatory training and induction programmes * Attending a formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months.
* Once a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed
* Contributing to public health campaigns (e.g., flu clinics) through advice or direct care, including opportunistic health promotional programmes
* Maintaining a clean, tidy and effective working area at all times.
* In addition to the primary responsibilities, the GP assistant/medical assistant may be requested to:
Demonstrate the ownership of responsibility for personal development, learning and performance - Demonstrate performance of skills and activities to others undertaking similar work. Attend relevant annual updates and shared practice learning. Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead. Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care. Support and participate in shared learning throughout the PCN.Undertake any tasks consistent with the level of the post and the scope of the role, ensuring that work is delivered in a timely and effective manner.Duties may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the post or the level of responsibility.
