Job summary
Beckett House Practice (Stockwell), pride ourselves on excellent holistic care
for our patients. We are looking for a Receptionist who is conscientious,
focused and proactive, flexible and who is willing to learn and develop
personally and as part of our team. You will be a vital part of our
practice, enabling us to continue to deliver excellent care to our
patients.
The ideal candidate will have some experience in
administration in a healthcare setting, but full training will be provided.
Main duties of the job
Our reception role is varied. Our team are the first point of contact for our patients. In addition to working on our reception desk, taking calls to book appointments and dealing with queries, our receptionists undertake a wide range of admin duties relating to prescriptions, referrals and hospital correspondence, recalling patients for screening and immunisations, registering patients and supporting them to access our digital services.
The successful candidate will be a conscientious worker, committed to working in a team to deliver our aims and the best possible care.
Part of our role is delivery of the NHS immunisation programmes and it is important that the successful candidate will feel comfortable explaining the benefits of vaccination and encouraging patients to attend.

Job responsibilities
It is the
role of the receptionist to assist the patients in the easiest possible way to
see the doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals within the
Beckett House Practice. As we increasingly work as a mutidisciplinary team, this includes helping to advise the patients about which professional to see. Our team also signpost patients to other local services such as pharmacies and sexual health services.
Patient enquiries must be handled courteously,
efficiently and with empathy. Our reception team project
a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person
or via the telephone.
There is a wide range of administrative work undertaken as part of the role, which must be managed efficiently and promptly in cooperation with the team. This includes call/recall, processing incoming clinical documents to upload to the medical record, sending referrals, processing repeat prescription requests, dealing with incoming correspondence including email and online consultations and processing registrations and removals from our patient list.
The reception team also support the practice in ensuring our rooms are stocked with clinical and clerical supplies, process test requests forms and samples, chaperone in medical examinations and support the general day-to-day running of the practice.
Full training is provided in all aspects.
Our clinical system is EMIS. Staff must ensure they correctly document their work on the IT system and record patient data using the correct templates and procedures.
In
the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to
gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other
matters. They do so in confidence
and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act
appropriately. All of our reception staff are bound by the requirements of the NHS confidentiality procedures and GDPR.
Our receptionists behave always in a
manner which is welcoming, is non-judgmental and respects
the circumstances, feelings, priorities and rights of our patients and their carers.
