Job summary
We are looking for a Medical Receptionist to join our long-established GP practice in the heart of Llanishen Village, supporting 9,900 patients. As part of a close-knit team, you'll be the first point of contact for patients, handling appointments, administrative requests, and general inquiries with professionalism and efficiency.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication and IT skills, the ability to work well under pressure, and a keen attention to detail. Previous experience in a GP practice is preferred, but we also welcome applications from fast learners who can adapt quickly to a busy healthcare environment.
This is a part-time role (20 hours per week), with working hours scheduled between 8:00 am and 6:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Working pattern negotiable.
Main duties of the job
- Acting as the first point of contact for patients, both in person and over the phone.
- Managing high volumes of telephone inquiries efficiently and professionally.
- Booking appointments and processing administrative requests using clinical software (Vision/EMIS).
- Triaging patient inquiries, directing them to the appropriate healthcare professional or service.
- Handling medical terminology confidently when responding to patient requests.
- Communicating effectively with colleagues, medical professionals, and attached staff to ensure smooth practice operations.
- Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to data protection guidelines at all times.
- Supporting the administrative needs of the practice with accuracy and attention to detail.
The role requires strong IT skills and the ability to learn quickly, as receptionists must use clinical software and handle medical terminology confidently when responding to patient requests. Professionalism and clear communication are key, particularly when assisting patients who may be distressed or frustrated.
