Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced,
motivated and enthusiastic Practice Nurse to join our nursing team.
The Practice Nurse will undertake a range of nursing
assessments and provide appropriate care / treatment in conjunction with the
Senior Practice Nurse, GPs and wider healthcare team, according to practice
policy, protocols etc. The Practice Nurse will strive to improve standards of
care and be involved in identifying practice population needs.
Hours: 27.5 hpw (days/shifts to be agreed)

Main duties of the job
- To work effectively with all members of the Primary Health Care Team and contribute towards accomplishing maximum results for QOF
- To ensure that Practice protocols are adhered to
- To ensure that the Practice objectives are achieved in all aspects of patient care
- Chronic Disease Clinics – diabetic, asthma, COPD etc
- Screenings – blood pressure, blood tests etc
- Cervical Screening
- Family Planning including contraception counselling
- Health Promotion and lifestyle advice
- Wound care and compression bandaging
- Immunisations, injections and vaccinations in line with local and nationals PGD

About us
We are a GMS practice with an approximate list size of 5,600
patients and use the EMIS Web clinical system common to all practices in
Gateshead.
Our aim is to provide high quality care at the point of need
to our practice population, many of whom live in areas of high deprivation but
with strong family networks. We endeavour to anticipate needs and intervene
with preventative strategies where possible.
We have a strong team ethos within the practice which we
actively maintain and develop by investing in training and mentorship. Our
staff take pride in their work, enjoy building their skills, and have built up
good relationships with patients, often over many years. The atmosphere is
relaxed yet professional.

- Work with the team and contribute towards accomplishing maximum results for QOF.
- Supervision when necessary of the Health Care/Nursing Assistant(s).
- Provision of health advice.
- Undertake immunisations, injections and vaccinations in line with local and national PGDs (as appropriate)
- Carry out screenings, eg blood pressure, blood tests etc.
- Cervical Smears
- Family planning including contraception counselling
- Provision of chronic disease clinics, eg diabetic, asthma, COPD etc.
- Provision of travel advice
- Venepuncture and the taking and preparing of pathology samples.
- Provision of general nursing duties, including wound care and compression bandaging, minor surgery, etc.
- The maintenance of health promotion literature and information for patients.
- Medical supplies stock control.
- The inputting of information onto the Practice clinical system.
- Use of Practice clinical system for patient searches for clinics and patient recall.
- Support the lead nurse on infection control within the Practice.
- Support the lead nurse on the ongoing cleaning and sterilisation of clinical equipment and working surfaces.
- The maintenance of treatment room equipment.
- Ensure your NMC membership registration is up to date.
- Work safely at all times in accordance with Legislative requirements and Practice Policy and Procedures.
- To cover duties for other members of staff, this may arise in the case of absence, sickness and holidays.
- To ensure that strict confidentiality protocols are adhered to.
