Fixed Term GP (Maternity Cover)

Job summary

We are looking for an 6-month fixed term salaried GP to cover 4- 6 sessions per week. We are preferably looking for someone to work 2 x sessions on a Monday, 2 x sessions on a Tuesday and 2 x sessions on a Wednesday. We are looking for someone who is proactive, enthusiastic, and happy to work as part of an outstanding, long established clinical team and the role would include covering duty doctor and on-call rotas on a fair share basis.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide consultations for acute, chronic, and preventive health needs.

  • Diagnose, treat, prescribe, and refer patients appropriately.

  • Manage long-term conditions and undertake health checks.

  • Support health promotion, disease prevention, and patient education.

  • Maintain accurate clinical records using SystmOne.

  • Undertake home visits when required.

  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.

  • Engage in continuing professional development.

The post holder will provide high-quality medical care to registered patients, managing acute, chronic, and preventive health needs in line with current clinical guidelines. Responsibilities include conducting consultations, diagnosing and treating a wide range of conditions, prescribing, ordering investigations, and referring patients as appropriate. The GP will also contribute to health promotion, disease prevention, and continuity of care, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe and effective services. The GP may also undertake home visits and supervise trainees.

    Essential

    • Experience in primary care
    • Evidence of working effectively within a multidisciplinary team
    • Knowledge of UK primary care systems and NHS structures
    • Ability to priorities, problem-solve, and make safe clinical decisions under pressure

    Desirable

    • Experience of teaching, training, or supervising medical students/trainees

    Qualifications

    Essential

    • MBBS or equivalent medical degree
    • Full GMC registration with a license to practice
    • Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) or equivalent
    • Inclusion on the GMC GP Register
    • On the National Performers List
    • Experience in primary care

    Desirable

    • Additional postgraduate qualifications (e.g. Diploma in Child Health, Diploma in Family Planning, Dermatology, Psychiatry, etc.)
    • Evidence of continuing professional development

    • Excellent record-keeping and IT skills (e.g. SystmOne)
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients and colleagues
