Job summary
We are looking to recruit a flexible, enthusiastic and experienced phlebotomist to our friendly team who can demonstrate a genuine interest in working in Primary Care.
Previous experience of working within Primary Care and knowledge of SystmOne clinical system would be advantageous, but training would be given to the successful candidate.
The post holder will be a key team member contributing towards patient care and the development of the Practice.
We are looking to fill up to 24 hours per week over a total of 4 days.
Main duties of the job
Working
under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of the practice
multidisciplinary team, the post-holder will be responsible for performing
venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient
population. In addition, the phlebotomist
will be expected to support the nursing team on an as required basis.

The following are the core responsibilities of the Phlebotomist. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
- Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample
- Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
- Maintaining accurate patient records on Systm1
- The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
- Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies
- Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
- Maintaining an effective liaison with the laboratory staff at Royal Devon & Exeter
- Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters

- In addition to the primary responsibilities, the phlebotomist may be requested to:
- Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead
- Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
- Support and participate in shared learning within the practice
- Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota
